Are you not cautious to open your door to everyone who knock/buzz on it?

In our country there are so many ways that this bad elements could get what they wanted unforcely. One of this method is by knocking on the door to those houses they planned to rob. One of the latest incidents happen in our country just recently, the robbers knocked at the gate-door of the victim. The helper talked to the two suspects behind bars of the gate-door what they wanted. The robbers introduced themselves as having had a delivery for their boss, as the robbers showed their fake cargo (a box). The helper without calling or informing first her boss let the robbers got in and that's crime began. They killed the helper first and stabbed the owner, the owner fought the the two robbers by slugging all the stabs until he was down..seeing the victim down they got rattled and run nowhere..that's the situation... Well then, what will you do to prevent this crime act in your residence? Let's talk and share your opinion...

we should instruct our househelpers not to let people get inside the house. if there is a way to get a particular package or mail item (if legitimate), maybe this should be done, perhaps, through a window or without totally opening the door. if not, we ask the delivery man to present an ID, ascertain everything is legitimate before receiving the item. This may be done without letting in the person but transactions/conversation may be made through a window. if still in doubt, devise a way not to entertain the persons, perhaps, telling them that u would drop by their office to pick it up later urself, asking for their office address or telephone number. u can easily detect somebody lying because of their answers. u should need to confirm what they tell u by calling their "office". if still in doubt, make ways to delay them and let them wait at the gate, then secretly call the police and tell them about ur suspicion so they can apprehend the suspects.

That's the best idea my friend we have to tell our helpers or whoever in the house to refrain from entertaining strangers, never ever let them in without the owner's permission because that's already the way those bad elements would do...thanks for responding..

well, we do have a gate before the door. and i always look up before opening it. my neighborhood isn't as safe as before, we got homeless and heart less people at night. so in the evening we close down the door and the gate. but if in any case happens the police station is nearby.

that's good for your place, you are leaving nearby at police station. but don't put too much confidence...in our country there were some police elements who were involve or accessories on some robberies...just reminding my friend...thanks for responding..

I don't open my door for anyone unless I know exactly who it is. And if it is a delivery, then I have to see the truck in front of my house that belongs to the delivery company. I know there have been times I have not been careful enough but I try to be very careful and never open the door for anyone. I have been like that for many many years.

Yes..just bear this in your mind that nowadays there's no more safe place where we can go..even in our own backyard there's no guarantee for that because of these bad elements flooded in our environment...we must be very extra careful and instruct our helpers and whoever left in our home about this...thanks for responding...

For me, I would first ask them who they are and what they want behind bars of the gate-door. If they claim to be delivering something for someone, I'll then ask that whoever the parcel or letter is for to come over and talk to them, if that person happens to not be around, I'll probably ask them to come back again later or the next day when that person is around.

that would be another good idea. Whatever it would be the best that helps we must tell and instruct anyone in our house to never open easily to someone who would knock if they do not know the person..thanks for responding...

Yes, I always do. I always shout out who it was at the door. It is is a delivery man, I will ask him to leave the things at the door. Too many people have been robbed, raped and molested because they are not careful. If we feel something is not right, it is best to call the police. Yes, household help do let the robbers in especially when it is a planned robbery after midnight. This happens a lot in Malaysia. Many of my friends have been robbed and a friend told me one of their friend's daughter was transported to a plantation where the robbers gang-raped her.

Hi mobhomeir! Same here in our country, the robbers usually knocked in doors of households. At first they will tell you that they were going to conduct surveys from local goverment unit. When you open the door they will start to declare that this is a holdap and tie you up together with your family. In my case i dont usually open my door especially when a stranger knocks. I only entertain them outside the gate of our house. It is necessary to be careful and cautiously.

My husband and I don't like to entertain people at home, so when someone rings the door, we're usually not expecting them. However, if we are going to have something delivered, we know in advance, so in those cases we'll check. The nice thing about living in this building is that they buzz from the lobby, instead of coming right to the door, so we don't always have to open the door if we don't want to.

I have had someone knock on my door at 4:30am before. My lights were on, I was giving my son some medicine...I seen a car pull into the end of my driveway and turn off their headlights. Then I began to hear a knock at the door. I asked who it was and was told a name I didn't recognize, and that he had run out of gas, dropped his wife off at work and was from a town about 30 miles away, his mom lived down the road from me but wasn't home. Did I have a phone he could use or extra gasoline...he would pay me for it..... I told him no, I didn't have a phone he could use, he should go wait at his mom's house for her to get home and called for my older son....the man left. I don't mind helping someone out, but 4:30am is a bad time for someone to ask me for my help. If he ran out of gas, how did he pull into my driveway and then drive away? He mentioned his mom's name and I know most of my neighbors and the name he gave, I didn't know. Later I was told by friends that it was a good thing I didn't open the door and told him no. there had been a group of people caught that were doing just what he had done and while one person keeps you busy at the door, the other gets in the house or garage and robs/kills. Not what I want to deal with. I just moved away from that house, it was in the middle of no where, no close neighbors and I feel a little bit safer now, even though I don't like close neighbors because they always seem to know what is going on at your house, day or night, although it can be a great help when something like that is going on.

Whew! That was horrible. Yeah it was good you never open them. You're right how come he intentionally drop at your drive way at that very time? 99.99% i am sure that was his tactics hoping you might open and then we don't what would be the next to happen..I guess we must be vigilant and be cautious in our environment nowadays...thanks for responding...take care always

hi mobhomeir well I am in a different situation here as I'live in a retirement center with a number of other people of all ages. we each have our own room,.and any people coming into gold crest have to sign in so no robber could ever get in here.even us residents have to sign out if we go out and sign back in so everyone's whereabouts are known at all times. the only crime here is some stupidty on the part of one caretaker who tries to give medications to the wrong person. i am glad that my roommate and I discovered his error immediately before i had taken medications that were for my roommate.

Yes I understand. Well that's one of the best idea. By logging in, it would minimize criminal activities because they would hesitate to come inside the premises. Thanks for responding...

if someone knocks on my door i always ask who it is. if i do not know them i will not answer and will not open the door. i let them know i am home so that they do not try to break in if they are up to no good because the authorities say you should at least acknowledge that someone is home but just do not open the door to them. i think anyone coming to my door that i do not know is an invasion of my privacy and i view it as a threat as well because what the heck are you doing on my doorstep in the first place??

I don't let anyone I don't know, that is unexpected into my house. There was a period of time in my city where men were dressing in what appeared to be utility uniforms and knocking on houses saying they had to check this or that. The women would let them in not thinking anything of it and it turned out the man was not a utility worker but ended up attacking the woman. If someone comes to my home saying they have to check whatever, if I haven;t called them, and the company hasn't called me, they do not come into my home.

I have no doubt feeling, to open the door to every one who knock and buzz on it, because they call first before they knocks on it, in our place are very peaceful most of our neighbors never go on other home if they didn't needed.

Yes I understand that my friend, and it would be so suspicious if someone would be knocking when in fact your people never go on neighborhood visiting just for plain nonsense talking unlike in our country that gossiping are already part of the lives to all of those people living in the slum areas...thanks for responding then...

Hello Martin, Well, this is really scary my amigo. Here in our area, thu i feel secured,(with my four dogs around and gate and fences)we still can't tell how these elements will find their way.Since these robbers had their own techniques and ways of fooling and cheating. I always instruct my kids to close the gate, and even locked the screen door when they are inside house. And also,to be alert when our dog started to bark unusual. We can't also tell thu we are prepared with all the weapons,as we can watch from the news how these bad people are so mean and devilish. I guess the only hope is..to pray for God's guidance...our ultimate and best weapon above all.

Actually I am not cautious to open my door, because I don't think bad things will happen on me.Although I've seen many devil guys breaking into others' house and taking away precious goods on tv or radio report before for many times,I take it for granted, the possibility that it happens on me is extremely low,so I don't care too much about this.

Hello jackie I think you have your own precautionary measures to prevent whatever crime might going to happen in your house..or maybe you have your own army, own a battle tank or has an armory that you could just use it in a wink of an eye...thanks for responding..
