People who make you shake your head!

I work as a cashier, it's harder than you think. But that's not the hardest part...it's the customers who just make you shake your head & think how they even got out of bed that morning. One customer walks up to my register & places his items down. I start scanning. He then asks if he can get cigaretts from this register. I tell him no you have to go to express for that. He complains about now having to do 2 transactions. I just shake my head. He then complains about how long it's taking for him to swipe his Credit card.....it's not my fault the machine does not work that well some days. He then complains that I should get it fixed (I don't own the store I just work there) so I shake my head again. Then he complains that the pen kept clicking up & he threw it back at me (if he had not been pressing on that part of the pen it would have worked fine) so I give him another pen (exact saame as the other one) & he signs the recipt. I shake my head as he yells at me that Coles Sucks (the supermarket chain) & walks off.... he didnt need to tell me it sucks...I work there....I already know that. I shake my head & hope I never get him again. It's people like that that just.....make me shake my head.

How rude people are. I know my daughter works at a call center. The stories that she comes home with. People call for orders and they act like my daughter can create an item and get it to them in a day. People are just so rude and nasty and its all so uncalled for. They have no manner and think you have something to do with the way a place or company is run. You just work there what do they expect from you. Sorry that you have to deal with such rudeness and stupidity. I know its hard but I would go with the flo and just ignore them as much as you can. Take care.

Stupidity is ok, I can deal with that. It's the rude ones that have me wondering where they would be if there were no cashiers left? How would they get their items? No wonder I am on 4 weeks holidays.I need the break.

It is good that people like that make you shake your head and not bog you down, for I believe there is a funny side to it all, if you look at it that way. What you have written just made me laugh and I realized that there are so many times it would have done, if I had just shaken my head or laughed it off instead of taking things seriously and pondering over them. Thanks a lot, and all the best to you!!

I work as a cashier and I know just what you mean. There are some who just complain about every little thing. I just shrug them off. I mean...I did not force them to come into my store. If you don't like the prices...go elsewhere...nothing I can do about it. I had one guy tonite come in and ask me to do a quick pick for the powerball but before I printed it up, I had to read him off the numbers. If he didn't like them he'd have me do another. I did 7 before I finally blew and asked why...I mean really...you don't know what the numbers are going to be so how do you know if the ones you are rejecting are winners or not? It is so ridiculous and they hold up the line and I really do have other things to do. I'm sorry...it is sunday nite and I just put in four 10 hour shifts dealing with the public and I can so relate to what you are saying. By night 4...good thing that I have 3 days off. People don't realize how irritating they can be.

I had to mark your one as the best response. It's just captures how it feels perfectly. I wish I could just tell some to take a hike & don't come back. But alas my job is to serve...but not to take crap.

hey....thanks. One thing for sure is that by working on the other side of the counter, we learn how to be good customers. right?

We sure do. I also know not to yell at people on the phone.... I know it's not their fault personally....well except for the person who 'forgot' to cancel my account for 9 months.

There are just some people who are so unhappy with their lives it makes them...um shallow. Like that customer you are talking about. He only saw the things he can complain about and not the fact that he must have looked like an idiot ranting in front of decent people like you. I have encountered a lot of people like that and, in my analysis, they do that because they think it makes them big, important. I pity them. Kudos to you for just shaking your head Take care!

I come home & tell my husband all about it. I know that if it was him working where I do he would jump the counter & shout back at them hehee. but I just shake my head & think what a sad life they have to attack someone they do not know at all.

What would have happened if you gave this customer extra kindness for his anger? Act like he is your very best friend. I know a lady who did just that. The couple came back a few days later and bought her lunch for being so nice. I know it's hard to give kindness when you receive anger but the results are always better.

Oh I was kind. Despite the people I do have to serve I have a smile & am nice. But there are those who just make you think about why you bothered. When this customer was leaving I screamed out have a nice night, he gave me the bird. Huh? But I just tell my co-workers & we all have a great laugh. We changed the supermarket sloagan that night between us.... the normal one is Coles...it all counts. Now between us it's Coles.....it sucks. Hahaha in-house joke & we loved it.

It is like that in service industry. We are often "punching bag" for the customers. Actually I can understand how you feel because I also worked as a cashier before. I often get scolded by the customers and it's just making me shake my head. I remember one customer I just stick a sticker on her fan to indicate that she pay for it, but she asked me to take the sticker out. I told her that the sticker will indicate that you pay for it as we have similar products in other shops also. She scolded me saying that why would I steal things, chop my hands and legs for just this small amount. I have children to take care of and I am a lawyer myself. Do you think they will dare to accuse me of stealing. My list of bad experiences with customers can go on but sometimes you would meet those nice customers also. So hang in there.

I have a similar situation but I work in produce at a local store and people are always complaining about stuff. If we have green bananas they want yellow ones and vice versa. They complain that they cant open the bags to put the produce in. They complain that they cant find stuff. We move stuff around each week when stuff is on sale. I do agree with them. I think things should stay the same. I want to tell them I dont own the store I just work there.

I think that anyone who works in customer service has had those kinds of people. It's like no matter how good you treat them, they are just going to be mad. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt that they had a bad day and it's not simply that they are jerks, but you never know...

I used to work for a big credit card company, and yes! I've been shaking my head 6 out of 10 customers, most of them are they are complaining about what they signed up for. That's what made me quit my job, it could have been easier if they understood their or our companies terms and conditions first.
