Overdoor hanger

So my metal overdoor hanger broke and I bought a new, much nicer, better quality one. I need one in my bathroom to hang towels on the door because I don't have any hooks on the back of the door. So, I threw the old one away and replaced it with my nice shiny new one and how nice it looked. Then I went to shut the door and it wouldn't close! The bits that go over the door won't fit through the door gap at the top! What's that all about? So yes it functions as a great over the door hanger but oh dear the door no longer functions as a door!
Any sollution suggestions anyone? LOL

Take it back and get one that screws onto the door and does not over lap the top of the door. I'm sure they have one. They do have a nice one that holds shoes and other things that you screw onto the door at the top and bottom on all four corners.
Or if you can not take that one back...maybe you can cut slits in the top of the door that would allow the thing to slide down inside them thus allowing the door to close.
Good luck

You could also drill holes in the top of the hanger frame and then screw it to the door.

Hey there moondancer
Yes I think that is the only option to take it back but I am not good at diy and will make a real mess of the door if I try to screw one to the door and as for cutting slits in the top of the door ... well I bound to make a real mess of that too lol
Thanks

It's really not hard to put screws in. In fact a drill does most of the work. You pick a drill bit that is a bit smaller than the screws and make sure you add a bit of glue in the holes. You'll be using it pretty regularly and it screws may work loose some time or another.
You could also put on some hanger brackets that you could then clip the rack over or onto. If I could draw it out for you I would. I think you know what I mean though.
A U shaped bracket and then put the part that goes over the door in to the U part. You will probably have to hammer down that part so it does not stick out...unless it looks okay like that.

all you need to do is make the door a bit less tall, just use'
a plane and take off an inch or whatever is needed and the
hanger will fit perfectly . my hubby did this when mine would'not fit. course you should own the house, but no it wou ldnt be that much.

I hate DIY! I am hopeless absolutely hopeless, I refuse point blank to buy anything that you have to construct yourself, so I always buy readymade and I will go out of my way to buy things that you don't have to put up yourself, too many nightmares, high blood pressure and arguments! In your situation I would take it back and see if you can find a nice young man that is willing and able (to assist you!) I think not being sexist that helpless women get more help from the male populace. Good luck ;0)

Hi wolfie
I am not good at DIY either nor am I a huge fan of it either!! That is why I bougt hooks to hang over the door rather than drilling holes and screwing hooks into the door and then you have to make you get them straight etc etc. Don't think there are any nice young willing and able men out there, are there? LOL

haha well you can either pee with the door open.. or you can take it back and try to find one with smaller over the door hooks! or the screw into the door kind.. I dont have hooks either.. i just throw my towels over the shower curtain rod in there and the kids have a hook inside their closet for theirs..
If the above doesn't work for you.. what if you put the hanger on a door you usually dont close.. like bedroom door.. closet door.. something like that.. as long as you remember to take the towel with you when you go to shwoer!

hi humbug if there is not too big a gap you could take a plane and'just shave off enough of the top of the door so the metal'over the door hanger will let the door close. my hubby hAd to do this for'our bathroom and it was just a little bit that had to come off. just'
an idea and it might just work. maybe your hubby could do this'
for you. I know i didnt know how but he did. bless men they do
'come in handy.he he he.
