Why 09/09/09 is the magic day for marriage?

Many people across the world were taking advantage of the last Wednesday to tie the knot. Is there anything special for the date 09/09/09? It is auspicious for Chinese brides to get married on 09/09/09 because Mandarin word for "nine" sounds like the word for "longevity". But why so many western people still love 09/09/09? What makes 09/09/09 a once-in-a-lifetime date for marriage?

This is the one day of the year when all three numbers are the same. Next year, it will be 10/10/10; October 10, 2010. We will not see another 9/9/09 until the year 3009.

Yes, make sense. But I did not notice if the previous ones were the hot date or not just because few chinese bride chose. It Seems that the chinese people are only interested in the numbers "nine" and "eight" that correspond to "forever" and "fortune".

It's just cool to do something special on an odd date like that. My husband proposed to me on 03/03/03...because he had been planning to propose and because he knew that neither one of us would forget the date if he did it on that day.

I have most of my stuffs in daily life with the number 9 because it is the lucky number for me so I believe this is why people have chosen the three 9 to get married or do something in their life. I will also choose the number 8 or 9 for my wedding month or date or even year.

I heard that in Chinese, 9 is the number that corresponds to "forever". Next year will have much the same show, as 10 is the number that corresponds to "perfect"

"9" also has the meaning of "long time" and "forever" in Cantonese culture. When you send "9" red roses to a girl, that means you want to be with her for long time. If "99", of course, means longer than long, and "999", longer than longer...So, people prefer to married in 09/09/09 means that they wish to be together as long as possible.
