cleaning: are you random or do you have a routine ?

I tend to be a little of both, if its starting to look like it needs to be cleaned, then i clean it.. so i guess that's my routine. I usually take on one room a day.. and just PLOW through the whole room all at once and get it over with. Today.. i may do two, they both look like they need to be done.. So what's your style ? what do you hate doing the most ? Dusting is my worst chore.. i neglect it.. always.

Well I have quite a routine! I wake up and get myself ready, I then go and wake up my youngest daughter and feed her, I then clean my living room when she has gone back to sleep. I then go and wake up my oldest daughter, bath her and put a nappy on and then feed her. I then get her dressed by this time she mnormally wants a nap so I take this oppourtunity to come on myLot until my youngest daughter wakes up for her next feed. I then go and bath her then feed her and she is then asleep for another 4 hours while my oldest daughter will now have about another hour in her cot. I take this time to clean my kitchen and bathroom. I then get my oldest daughter and feed her again then we clean her room together then when my youngest wakes up again she gets fed then I wait for my partner to get home so I can clean our room without disturbing my youngest daughter then its bath time again for us all. That is my full routine. I had to tell you it all because then I would remember it all. I do try and get out during the day too and if I do that then we go after my oldest daughters nap which means her room gets neglected for a few hours but it is always tidied as I cannot stand mess!

wow that's a lot of sleeping your kids do. haha i'm lucky if my oldest naps, and the youngest has started to fight sleep too! hehe mine are old enough i can bath them together in the tub.. I usually do all three of us at once! less time and effort and we get to play in the bath together.. although its getting a little squishy in there lol.

Why so many baths ? a lot of people with kids find it weird that i bath my kids daily! i just do a bath before bed, mostly for routine, and to get any food stuff they've managed to smush into their hair and on the skin is off before sleepytime.. My kids are 18 months apart or there abouts, oldest is 3 and the little one is 18 months. Now i'm ready to have another. but i made a mistake.. i got my tubes tied after the last baby.. ;(

Hi Sissygrl, did I mention I loathe and detest cleaning but can't afford to employ a woman that does, as we used to say. I'm most definitely the put off then blitz type but by zest of a good de cluttering job it's easier to keep on top of it all. I haven't got a carpet to my name so it's all brush, mop and go out here (it's tiled throughtout by the way). It's all so pointless though as it just gets dirty again. So what DO I hate the most. Well it was a one month wonder which hopefully won't reappear next spring but we went through a month of bee poo, yes, that's right, all over the balconies, little reddy brown spots which refused to be mopped up and had to be hand scrubbed on hands and knees in hot temps. Only to be back again half an hour later. Now that really was a pointless task.

Flippin bees!! wow.. you should have got to the Root of the problem and got rid of what was attracting them.. was their hive near your house ? or some really pretty flowers ? I have honestly never seen BEE POOP before.. haha. i dont think i'd want to be cleaning that up either.. you should have tried one of those pressure washers if you have a friend that owns one.. i dunno how expensive they are to buy, but if the problem persists, it may be beneficial to your sanity to buy one and see if it works! haha.

Well I never quite believed the bee thing as the poop looked nearly as big as a bee and they don't tend to get around much, they are kept in bee hives on the hills nearby, my own theory was swallows but it came out of somethings bottom. Regularly. We don't know each other yet and if you knew me you'd understand why I am rolling round on the floor at the thought of me standing there using a pressure washer

Hmmm, my style is to do whatever needs to be done when it needs to be done. Other than that, I have no "routine". I'm pretty good at dusting, though, because my youngest son had 13 allergies, including dust and dust mites, so I learned to stay on top of the dusting. The chore I hate the most, I think, is cleaning the oven. I don't like using chemicals so I refuse to get that Oven Off stuff. That means, obviously, that I have some scrubbing to do. It's not the scrubbing itself that I hate so much, though. It's the getting down and leaning into the oven that I hate. I have a bad back and it loves to scream at me when it's not happy and cleaning the oven is definitely something that makes it unhappy!

mental i moved around a lot and have yet to clean an oven that way hahaha. that's pretty good now that i think about it.. i'm 29 and never cleaned the inside of a stove.. (that i can recall) i'm sure i'd remember that... I think i'll stick with the old fashioned way too though when i do clean it.. sos pads and water is how my mom does it i'm sure.. There are drip tray type things you can get to put inside under the elements so that there is not that big of a mess in there.. they are almost like a tin foil tray. i believe my mom uses one of those to cut down on the amount of scrub a dub dubbin she has to do. She has a bad back too.

You know, Sissy, I've seen those drip things quite often and have thought about getting them over and over again but still haven't done it. I'm going to add that to my list right now and give them a try. Not having to clean the bottom of the oven would surely be a blessing to my back! LOL I knew a woman who just used aluminum foil to line the bottom of her oven. I've never tried that, either. Why, I have no idea! Geez... life could have been so much simpler all these years if I had just... Isn't hindsight wonderful? You are VERY fortunate to never have had to clean an oven! I moved around quite a lot myself before I bought my first house. That's when reality REALLY sunk in! I had never even thought of cleaning an oven until I owned my first one. Then it was like, Ah crap, now I have to do this. Enjoy your non-oven-cleaning days while they last!

I am a random person in doing cleaning chores...I always do my cleaning when its getting messy, uncomfortable to me, and the things eat up too much space. I think I hate doing arranging the items the most, as I often waste too much thinking where should I put my books, papers, clothes, speakers and all others thing. Plus it always make me sweaty moving all the things around. ;P

haha we moved a year ago and left most stuff behind or freecycled and sold the big stuff, and left some for our friend whom took over our apartment (thank goodness).. so we dont have a lot of clutter. I try to throw as much useless stuff away as i can. I have a shoebox where i keep my important papers, and i have a shoebox where i put my husbands important papers.. and if anything is laying around and doesn't fall into the shoebox category, it goes into the trashcan! our last apartment before we moved was very small.. and crowded and dark (in the basement) I refuse to live that way again!! anyone that is giving away furniture or anything i say NO THANK YOU! NO THANKS YOU NO THANK YOU!

cleaning our apartment really depends on my mood, sometimes even if it's already late, when I'm feeling like it, i would start to clean the room or something. lol. I don't really have a routine, that's why the apartment is always dirty cause nobody wants to clean it and noone is really responsible for cleaning the rooms here.

hehe sounds like you dont mind it that what though.. if you do you'd have to be the one to organize some sort of chore chart or something so that people start cleaning up their messes and its not untidy!

lol. I think it's an acquired skill, learning not to mind the chaotic state of our apartment.. before i would always make a chore chart, but I was always the only one who follows it and in the end i still do everything.. so I stopped and I just learned to live with it. lol.

I'm quite random but I'll always keep my house clean. Everyday I back home from work, if the house is in a mess, I'll do the cleaning first and then do the cooking no matter how hungry I'm. I can't bear living in a messing room. I have a hamster in my room, and luckily he is very neat. lol

I cant stand the mess either.. It gets to be after a few hours!! even the kids toys over the floor after a while i try to make them clean up their own messes as much as they can.. we have a problem with not putting toys back when they are done. but they are just learning now.. i'll keep at them and they will someday understand!

I'm random - I just sort of clean whatever I feel like that day. Unfortunately, I keep trying to have a routine so that things that are hidden get cleaned too, but I can never seem to keep to it.

I dont' enjoy cleaning... but is has to be done so I try to do it the best way, the fastest and most non-annoying way I can find! I do find that a little bit of cleaning every day and then one day of "deep" cleaning is a great way to go. After a few days of minor dust and wipe...that last day of "deep" cleaning goes by really fast as there isn't much to clean as in no deep set=in dirt and all. I will wipe down the bathroom counter every other day, the mirror once a week (before the deep cleaning day) and the kitchen...I vaccum the floor every other day, but don't bring out the mop until D-Day. I wipe things down as I use them, and then on D-day... I take off the burners and things on the stove and clean it all. I have also found to keep a cleaning kit in each bathroom instead of one and carry it through the house cuts down on time. Also seems I don't have to buy the stuff so often.. I watch for it on sale, buy two and that lasts me a long time instead of running out using one. The dust.. I give up. I live in a dust bowl....between 2 major interstates on the north and south, complicated by being between a mountain range and an international airport still on the north and south and the east/west is mountains on one side ....Los Angeles on the other so all the smog and air dirt just falls in the "bowl" this area is and I can dust today, but by tomorrow evening, it will look like I haven't dusted in 2 weeks!!!

ahh coffee i know what you mean about the dust. . i lived in an apartment that was RIGHT on the road, and heavy traffic twice a day like idling outside the window for a few hours in the morning and then again at the end of the work day. Black sooty dust. GROSS. i couldnt wait to move out of there.

I guess you could say I'm pretty random. Our house isn't dirty but it's often messy. I will usually decide what to clean first judging by what's messiest. If the living room is the most cluttered then it gets cleaned first, if the bedroom is starting to develop piles of clothes then it gets it first etc. Unless we're having people over and I'm doing a whole-house clean, then it goes kitchen, bathroom, living room and then bedrooms. That way if I run out of time or if the company arrives early the most important rooms are done!

haah i used to do that too.. its easy to put it off till it gets really messy isn't it!! the downfall is.. it takes a lot more time to clean the longer you put it off! alas i procrastinated the dishes last night, and now they are in the pile in the sink and i had to look at them when i first woke up. UGG haha. there is a never ending supply of dishes it seems!! especially when you have kids!

Hi sissygrl! Cleaning is routinary for me, everyday when I arrive from work the first place at home that I go is the kitchen. After preparing food for dinner, I need to clean the utensils and everything in the kitchen. After dinner, I'll put everthing in place from the dining to the bedrooms and bathrooms then sweep the floor all over the house, I'm doing this things until sleeping time comes. Laundry, dusting and general cleaning will be done only during weekends. Good Day!

You sound like you know what your doing, and you have a good routine on the go.. I used to be more diligent then i am now, but i'm just taking a short break right now to respond to some of you, and then i'm back at it again. I have been inspired to clean today.. that and i've had too much coffee ;)

I am a little of both myself. My goal is to always try and complete one room before I proceed to the next but unfortunately I tend to sometimes get sidetracked when I see something in another room that requires my attention and then I get started in there and have to go back to where I originally started. As a matter of fact I remember tearing the basement bathroom apart and then got online and left it unattended. lol

I have a routine....I start in the living room...then move to the dining room....then the bathroom and finally the kitchen....downstairs that is.....my worst would be scrubbing the shower/bathtub.....I am short and in order to get the higher places I have to stand on the edge of the bathtub.....slippery when wet! LOL

ugg i do the same!! i'm not that short. but i can't reach otherwise. be very careful! I start with the high places in the bathtub, and i have a squirt bottle so i dont have to get up and down up and down to wet the sponge! half soap and half water in the bottle. that way, its not slippery cause i've not washed that ledge yet, and less likely i will break my own neck!

I sweep and mop the entire house every day, but only because I have six dogs. The dusting gets done about once a week, again, because of the dogs. Some days I get all OCD and have to clean everything, immediately, from ceiling fans to wall triglobes from lighting fixtures etc...lol I do wash when I need to, not on any schedule. I mow & maintain our farm while husband works during the day. for the record, I HATE putting laundry away!!!

hhaha yes folding it is tedious and time consuming isn't it ? little baby clothes are even worse.. hard to fold them all up and keep them folded.. ahaha but they are so cute. I get OCD once in a while too.. do the walls and chairs and under the table.. inside the cupboards.. ahah.

I usually try to vacuum every other week but sometimes I do not. I also do not like to dust there is just alot of stuff that has to be moved all the knick knack, books, lamps, tapes and much more. When I can not stand looking at the dust anymore I will dust even if I have not vacuum that day.

Yeah for me cleaning is like both as a routine as well as random.Sometime i clean once a day and some time may be once a week and so on..but some peopla might hate to do that too because while cleaning there will be dust all around the places and we have to breath in that same dusty air which is quite bad for our health but nevertheless i use vacuum these days so i clean my room myself...
