Any good recipes for a Japanese Broth?

I would like to make a Japanese style broth with noodles and any other ingredients. I am like most foods and I am also willing to try new things. I really like miso soup so if it is miso based that is ok too. I would also like to know if the recipe can be adapted to be made in a slow cooker, if so does the technique change?
