Dear Mylotters, Good day to all. Have you ever thought of sins? Is there a big sin and a small sin? What are all the things are considered as sin? Are the mistakes we make in our daily life are considered as sins? People I am really confused in this matter. Please let me know your views on this. what are the things you consider as a sin? Why? As per the Bible, even if we see a women or men with lust it is a sin. OK, if some one slaps you, could you show them your other cheek? Or can you be calm? Let me know what is a sin and mistake..... Please share your thoughts.... Cheers... Happy Mylotting...

A sin is anything that takes you away from God and is against His will for us. Mistakes are not usually sins, as such, so long as we are prepared to learn from them. Really, it's all about the relationship you have with God. If you regard Him as your friend and father, you don't want to hurt Him or the people He loves (our brothers and sisters). If you regard Him as some kind of impersonal Judge somewhere in the sky, then, of course, you are always going to be living in fear of doing something wrong!

Dear owlwings, What you've said is absolutely true but we often tend to do mistakes in some situations that makes away from God. So, if mistakes repeatedly done, can become a sin?... Thanks for responding to this discussion. Cheers.. Have a nice day always..

Of course everyone makes mistakes and we are usually honest and say sorry (whether to other people - friends, partners, bosses or strangers - or to God). It's the intention that matters, not the fact that we put a step wrong. God's forgiveness is always ready (even before we ask): other people's forgiveness is not always as forthcoming but that is their problem, not ours. Sometimes the most difficult thing is to forgive ourselves and that is significant because, if we cannot forgive ourselves, it is harder for us - even impossible - to accept God's forgiveness and that leads us to feel apart from God.

in my religion(islam) and from my life experiences a mistake is not a sin unless done intentionally so if u committed a sin such as in my religion like eating something that contained pork it is only a sin if you knew that it was a sin and u did it anyway whereas if u had no idea, it is considered a mistake but not a sin becuz if mistakenly ate pork but u didnt know that it contained such ingredients. i dont know what religion u are but thats besides my point but if god didnt expect us to make mistakes then god would not of created us..... after all life is but a test

I would say that it is intention that differentiates a mistake from a sin. A mistake is an inadvertent error which was not committed with any bad intent whereas a sin is usually an irresponsible act with negative intent such as deliberately lying, stealing etc.

hi philip! In my opinion a sin is only a sin when you do it intentionally while mistake is unintentional. Lust is a sin if it is towards other people other than your wife or husband. If somebody slaps you then you have done something wrong to her, might be a mistake or a sin. You should stay calm and offer your other cheek if it would mean forgivenes for what you did....lol. Happy mylotting!

Hi seanbryan, I can never be calm if someone hits me. But it comes in practice when we are in God's presence. If we are in Him, he won't let that happen. Thanks for responding.. Cheers,,, Have a nice day always...

Hi phillip_shiny, Me too confused with the sin and mistake when people say about it....! I've came here just to have a look at people what they are trying to tell...! But personally I don't think anything as sin, everything is just a mistake only...! People differentiate that by the impact of your mistake...! I think so, If a man gets drunk and got addicted it affects his whole family (wife, children and their future).... This is how I think, Correct me If I had any mistakes in my view..!

Dear mynameiscindere, Thats right. If a man is drunk and he is single and not married is it a mistake? Definitely not. He is committing a sin against his own body which have been given by God. Hope you got me right? Thanks for your repsonse. Cheers... Have a nice day always...

Hi Phillip. I considered anything thing against the ten commandment of God in the Bible is a sin. There are also things I considered a sin. I consider drinker for one and smoking a sin it is not in the ten commandment, but anything that can destroy our body is a sin because our body is holy and sacred. It is where our spirit and soul lives while here on earth. I would not consider any mistake a sin. There are lot of mistake in the world and if you consider all the mistake a sin we will be all place in hell because we all make mistake and they say that nobody is perfect in this world we live in.

Dear marctiu, Really what you said is true. Our body is a place where God lives and we must protect them with holiness. But as humans we make mistakes. Yes, true indeed. Thanks for having your views in this discussion. Cheers... Have a nice day always...

It of course depends on view point. To me a mistake is somthing that was unintentional, or accidental, it is not something you choose to do so much as do either through innattention, or not being fully aware of facts or some misunderstanding of a situation, facts or people involved One definition of a mistake is a blunder of choice, another is to identify wrongly. One definition of Sin is an offense against moral or religious law. a transgression of the law of god. Now of course then you would need to determine what is a law of God for your own value or spirial system. For some the sins can be found in the ten commandments, for others it might be more or less. So say someone is a Christian for them they would find what makes a in within the commandments, yet the various church doctrine may claim that something else is a sin because church doctrine determines what is moral or religous law, so while it may be a Sin in one church it isn't in another. Catholic would not eat meat on Friday during lent, yet other Christians do not have this "sin" because it is not part of the doctrine. On the other hand someone whose spiritual values may be different and part of the Earth based religions may feel it is a sin to take any life and as such then would not eat meat at all ever, because they would not take the life any any animal so for them it is possible that eating meat is a sin. For some Christians not following the ten commandments is a sin, and so they may consider that those who do not follow the same faith are committing a sin, yet are they really? If someone is following their own spiriual values and the relgious moral laws of their own faith whether it is Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Pagan or something else, do they commit a sin if they obey their own spritual laws but disregard the ones of other churches / faiths? It is a personal view point, so is the definition of Sin. I was taught that the only sin God does not forgive is belief in Him. Well then what about those who may have a Goddess faith, they would not have so much belief in HIM but rather a Her or perhaps a Him and a Her, are they then sinners? Are they mistaken? I think that the difference between a mistake and a sin is based on intent and what it is that one is calling a mistake or sin. Some may say it is a sin to waste food. Well I suppose it could be when there are those who go hungry, On the other hand, when cooking something I use a spice or ingredient that is something the person I am cooking for is allergic to, or perhaps I have garlic powder and onion powder next to each other I put in onion powder instead of garlic, but the person I am cooking for is allergic to the onion powder. Is it a sin that person doesn't eat and wastes food? Or is it something I made a mistake on, is my mistake a sin or a mistake? Well I am not doing anything morally or spiritually or religously wrong, so it is a mistake not a sin, if food is wasted is it a sin or just something that happened or a mistake. It is just something that happened. Not a mistake not a sin though it is a result of mistake. So I think a mistake are things that happen, errors, and accidents, but a sin is a deliberate intent to disobey our moral or religious laws.

Thats very well and nicely explained. Mistakes are not done intentionally to hurt anyone. If, it is done against our belief it is a sin. Great explanation. Thanks for your response in this dicussion. Cheers... Have a nice day....

Lying is a sin and we do that everyday, so we sin everyday. I am not sure if lying is a small sin as it creates bigger problem. On my opinion, sin that are stated in ten commandments are the biggest sin we can commit. So it is in the rule that we must have follow.

All ten commandments are into one with the 2 commandments said by Jesus Christ right? Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Obey your parents. These two replaces all the 10 commandments right? Thanks for responding to my discussions. Cheers... Have a nice day..

hi phillip no the mistakes we make are just mistakes, not sins.Sins are things like greed, lust, stealing, hitting someone, breaking the law, being corrupt, those are sins. our petty errors are just human'errors, we all make them. sins are like killing, and robbing, and cheating, lusting after someone, eating so much you are a glutton those are sins. If someone were to slap me I would probably slap them back, sorry to say. defending oneself surely is not a sin.

Dear Hartley, I hope it is not defending. Defending is different from attacking. I hope my say here is acceptable. Thanks for posting your great response here. Cheers... Have a nice day....

They are consider sin if the mistakes is resulting to damages to life, reputation and many are affected which have deeply left the person suffering from emotional trauma, whether the mistakes is an honest mistakes but the outcomes is terrible. Sin could either be mortal and venial sins..

I think of a sin as being the things that people do that take us away from God and from our beliefs. For example, it is definitely a sin to take the life of another person. It is a sin to steal from another person. A mistake, I believe, is just that, a mistake. We are all human and I don't feel that we can be expected to be perfect. What I mean is that we don't always make the right decision. And, by making the wrong discisions we are able to learn from them. However, with a sin, I don't believe that we are able to learn from it because you have hurt another person or yourself in a way that can not be made up for.

Dear dorannmwin, So, can a sinner be never made perfect? If he becomes righteous after that he/she is learning from the sin he/she committed? Right? Clear me if I am wrong. I agree that sin takes away from God. But we can also learn from the sins we committed right? Thanks for responding to my discussion. Cheers...Have a nice day always....

I have a great idea about sin.............. The work that destroys another greatly and other ones belonging to animal and biological factors is sin. But disturbing the other person is not a sin.

A sin is a sin is a sin even if it is a mistake. We are all sinners - ever since The Fall. And the ONLY way to solve that is thru Jesus Christ. You cannot 'intellectualize' sin away. You cannot justify it with 'ignorance of the law'. And you cannot escape it because we are destined to be sinners. And to God, there is no degree of sin - only sin. No sin is worse than any other to God. Any sin is unacceptable to God because He is the Holy One and cannot be in the presence of sin - any sin. Period. Hence the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ and the acceptance of Him is the only way we'll be able to stand in the presence of God. We cannot escape sin nor avoid it. You point out lustful thoughts and yes they are sin. That there is perfect evidence against our sinful nature. It is still not acceptable to God. I know that sounds very rigid and it is but it's not my or your say but only God's. And BTW, I have had not much success at 'turning the other cheek' ever. :-(

As long as the mistakes do not hurt anyone I do not think they would be consider a sin. Now if someone would slap me I would probably slap back and I think that might be a sin because we should turn the other cheek and forgive the other person for what they have done to you.

any act that hurts others or oneself can be considered as sin. ignoring acts of sin might also be considered as sin. we all make mistakes but what we do when we realize our mistakes, makes the difference.

Goodday! I think Sins may be categorized based on what you believe in. Sin would entail a violation of one's dogma. Mistake could be just an action that isnt precise to its purpose.
