Toast your sandwich!

For some reason we had been without a sandwich maker for some time so I decided to get a new one. My middle son loves hot toasted cheese sandwiches. My other two sons can either take them or leave them. I love cheese and onion, cheese, ham and tomato, baked beans and bacon and on occassions I will thinly slice an apple and put it inside the sandwich then butter and sugar the outside, yummy! Jam ones are nice too but you have to be careful of how much you put in because it can be quite sickly and it burns if eaten too quickly!! What is your favourite toasted sandwich filling?

Hiya doll. Didn't breville used to make those sandwich toasters? I can vaguely remember buying mum one for Christmas, she used it for a while then it got banished to the cupboard where all the other unused gadgets went to, rather than the big gadget factory in the sky! I never used it to be honest, I prefer my sandwich cold and as for baked beans ewwwwww yukkkie! Jam ones????? I think we have finally found something we disagree on! Bon appetite ;0)

Hi ya wolfie34 I am glad we don't agree on everything cos that would get a bit boring and erm a bit freaky hahaha Yes we had a Breville one to start with when they first came out and it was great. I bought one last year from Argos but it really didn't live up to the original standards of Breville so I took it back and then got one from someone on freecycle! Thanks

holy mackreals!!!!!!!!!! I must have left my sandwich maker in ontario.. BOO!! why did i do that ?? I loved that thing.. our friend took over our apartment when we left so we didn't have to move a lot of stuff to nova scotia, or find new homes for it all.. i wonder if he uses it ?! I mostly like swisscheese and jam in there.. or broccoli and cheese. mmm.. I had better ask for one of those for xmas too LOL.

Cheese or bacon are my favourites. Besides any sandwich you toast is good. The taste of toast does seem to grow on you. Sometimes I stay away from this for a time and then find I have a yearning for it. Good luck toasting !

My favorite toast filling tuna with swiss cheese, or maybe chicken with cheddar cheese, it just depends on what filing I'm in the mood for.

Now you have got me thinking about where mine is. IT s not on top of the fridge! I just do not know where it is as I don't remember seeing it for a long time. I do not know why I put it away unless it was to cut down on the cheese! I love cheese toasted SANDWICHES BUT LIKE IT WITH SLICES OF TOMTO INSIDE AND ONIONS. i HAVEN'T EXPERIMENTED AS FAR AS i REMEMBER BUT THAT WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITRE SNADWICHES. I did not mean to go into caps and have no time to re type in lower case. Now where in H$ll di dI pout it????

Hi ya cynthiann I too love cheese almost a cheeseaholic. I nearly said that I haven't had cheese today but I have! LOL You really should find it and have an experiment with it, without cheese. Like I said the apple ones are good especially if you like apple turnovers then you are cutting down on your pastry and the sugar on the outside is optional but worth trying it with, just once! Cheers

Hi Humbug, I actually have a sandwich maker mouldering in the cupboard some where, but due to the exorbitant price of rather hard and unpleasant sliced bread out here I never use it, at the last look it was just under £2 for a very small loaf. So no toasted sandwiches here but if I could just a simple cheese one with tons of red onions and pepper.

i like some sandwhiches toasted like grilled cheese of course or grilled ham and cheese. a blt has to be on toast as well as a turkey club. i like tuna on toasted bread sometimes and sometimes regular bread. it really depends on what is inside the sandwhich and the mood i am in.

Hi ya kellyjeanne It is really good honestly! It tastes almost like pastry so it is like a slimmer version of an apple turnover and suprisingly the sugar doesn't burn. Thanks

I love toasted sandwiches too! My favourite filling is really quite simple. I like the filling to consist of cheese, onion, sweetcorn and very finely cut green chillies to give it a bit of an extra kick. I do love toasted snadwiches but I find cleaning the sandwich maker is always a big task afterwards!

Hi ya UK_Shree Yes that is true that is a real pain. I usuually put some newspaper under it to catch all the bits of cheese that somehow manage to leak out! Thanks

That is a great idea! Although I would be a bit worried about the thing catching fire - it does tend to get awfully hot!

Tough one. I love all kinds of toasted sandwiches! Any sandwich with cheese is great, since it melts so nicely. I'm getting very hungry now. I must try your apple sandwich, it sounds delicious. I think my favorite right now is just a simple grilled cheese. Ok, I'm going to make a sandwich now!

I never have tried to put sliced apple pieces in the middle of one of my toasted sandwiches. The one that I like the best would have to be the cheese used as a filling in my toasted sandwich. I do like to toast bread pieces in my toaster oven and then make the sandwich after with the toasted bread slices. They make the sandwich taste a little bit better.

Hi ya nijolechu You should really try the apple one but make sure you slice the apple thinly so that it cooks through without burning the bread! Thanks

This is tricky because i love almost anything in a toastie. But if I am honest it's probably a plain old cheese and tomato Humbug. I was in Asda at the weekend they were selling sandwich makers for a fiver!!! Now settle down, put your feet up and munch away!

Hi ya p1kef1sh Watch out cos that tomato can get mighty hot and burn your lips!!. I used to like doing egg ones but you can never be sure if the egg is cooked properly and it is a pain when you over cook it! Cheers

Hi ya Hatley Is your stomach still rumbling? LOL I would say that apple goes very well with cheese I am just not sure they go together hot!! The apple one is really good though, make sure it is sliced thinly so it cooks through properly and the sugar is an added bonus. To my surprise it doesn't go brown or burn, unless you leave it way too long of course! Thanks

I love grilled cheese sandwiches. Sometimes I put some ham in there or pepperoni or salami. I also like grilled cheese and bacon. I don't like BLT sandwiches since I don't like tomato. I just tried another kind of toasted/grilled sandwich last week - peanutbutter and fluff. Oh my gosh! It was so good.

You are making me hungry!! My favorite is the cuban sandwich..Lots of these here in South Fla. You use fresh cuban bread of course, if no avail in your area, use any soft hogie roll, Paper thin slices of pork and prosciutto ham, swiss or baby swiss cheese thin sliced pickles and cuban (yellow) mayo. I usually toast it on grill with a heavy weight on top as my sandwich maker broke!! In any case try it,,its yummy. If you want receipe for cuban mayo, let me know..Joyce
