The Unwritten MyLot rules...

Earlier today i experienced that i broke some of the unwritten MyLot rules, which I sincirly regret, and have applogized to the person implicted.
After that i searched on MyLot and couldnt find and posts/discussions regarding the unwritten rules and guidelines of MyLot. How we as fellow MyLotters show the discussion starter and discussion commenters general respect, none the less of which culture you are from.
So what is acceptable to do behaviour wise to your fellow MyLotters, discussion starters and commenters included.
(Sorry for my maybe bad explanation of this, but i hope all gets the point, I would like to thank all who contributes to this discussion, in hope to bring out awareness of the unwritten rules and behavior guides on MyLot.)

Hi Downwindz. I'm so glad that you took my advice in good spirit and turned it into a discussion. What irritated me may not bother someone else as some people never respond to their own discussions.
As you know I pointed out that it was not really on to start responding to a discussion posted before the discussion opener had chance to do so, nor to add further to every other respondents box. This is what we can make our own discussions for. This has been a trend starting of late and it is not proving popular. I am not referring to banter on discussions or comments left in other boxes but on what I perceive as someone effictively taking over a discussion.
The best thing for new members to do if not sure is to take time to look at different styles of discussions to see which work.
Downwindz and I cleared this matter nicely and are now ,Mylot friends

Offcause, I believe im a person with a winners mind, and im fairly competitive. The only way to approve is to figure out how to do it better, so improving my skills on MyLot and also hopefully improving other peoples skills. So i thought why not turn it into a discussion, im confident there is alot other people out there who have offended topic starter without really knowing what they have done wrong.
The worst thing about this experience was actually that i didnt notice before Thea was so kind to send me a message in regarding to her unwritten rules that i actually had hijacked her discussion, which i never intented too. I owe her thanks for this lesson, and now i know what to do in the future instead of just making alot of "quality" comments on the behalf of the topic starter.
Maybe i should make a nice list once this discussion have reached its end, with the good points for behavior on MyLot towards other users.

hello there downwindz^^;;
you only said you tried finding it from the posts/discussions. Did you try the FAQ's?
I think I have read one that says we should treat each other respect whether we agree or disagree to that discussion or to someone's opinion. we should always try to be friendly and civil as we are like one family here.
anyway, it's nice to see that you admit whatever you have done and let others learn from you and we might just be careful always because as you said, we have different cultures that affect each one's point of view.
cheer up and happy lotting^^;;

Ahh yes we are just humans and can all make mistakes. The FAQ and Guidelines doesnt mention any of the rules i seem to have broken today, just the small unwritten rules of MyLot which us green starters wouldnt notice unless we where made aware of this.
I compeltly agree that we should alwas trt to be friendly and treat by respect if we agree and disagree with the discussion.

I'm also new here so most of the time reading other lotter's post to learn more about mylot. and try to read this one posted discussion, may help you.

Hi Downwindz,
There is no such thing that you broke the unwritten rules because there is no rules unwritten
. But there is certain ethics that need to be follow for us especially for the discussion starter.
When we start a new discussion, it is important for us to give a comment on our responses as a courtesy. They have spend their time and ideas on our discussion and it is just normal for us to write them back. It is also make it a discussion. Otherwise it is only a question and answer session. You can also make a lot of friends and everybody love to come back to your discussion if you comment them.
Don't forget you will earn from every post that you make as long as your posts have quality and length. So, why waste such opportunities to earn there?

ahh maybe it was the word ethics i was missing and turned it into "unwritten rules"
I also believe the topic starter should show of some respect to the people participating in the discussion, by this i mean responding them for thier time, and also with more than just "Thanks for your comment" or the like.
Do you have any ethics you would like your discussions participants to go along by?

There is no written ethics that I totally follow during my time here in mylot. But I always try to give a comment for every responses that my discussion received. It is good for me and for the responder. If the responder have anything to add, he/she can added it quicker. It is become a real discussion that way because it is more like we are chatting.
But sometimes, I can't give a fast comment because I had to log out for some reasons. I can only give my comment once I log in again. Actually I don't , I don't mind if someone put comments on that responses but I prefer to write it first before someone else do it

well people who start a discussion and then appear just to leave it to grow, not commenting on it at all, are highly annoying. not saying you must comment on every single response you get but ignoring your own discussions completely looks like you were never interested in them to start with. also sometimes responding too fast when you're discussing something can lead to lots of overlap which can be a bit frustrating. that one's really a matter of judgement. finally, and these are actually against the rules but some still do them - posting lots of variations of the same discussion and not actually starting a discussion at all but just using a link are extremely irritating. from what i've seen though i don't think you are likely to do either of these.

Ahh no im not a linker as such, unless i simply have too ;) I must though admit i look forward for my 500post mark so i can copy paste, useful if you need to "Quote"
There seem to be users believing that other peoples activity earns them cash, but it is not like that. I found out through several ways, in the beginning i thought the same, even though i was responding to my discussions also, so beeing active commenting back was actually what i earned from.
I guess posting alot of posts without really commenting on the responses especially if the topics are close to each other it may seem like uneeded spam in my eyes...

Hmm. I havent been on this sitelong but one thing I've noticed a lot of people dont liek and that isnt even allowed is the people who write spam referal posts. Its just tacky. I also don't like when people post comments that are hostile to the point of they wont even give your idea ANY form of consideration or at least respect your opinion, while aagreeing to disagree. I know this isnt that in deph. This is a good topic I would like to know what others think.

I certainly also believe this is a good topic which is the reason i created it. It made me aware that things you dont know on MyLot as a greenuser maybe could be found in a post about the unwritten rules, hopefully we will get more information about how to treat our fellow MyLotters by respect rather than disrespect.
I dont like spam referal posts either, or people who only just post "thanks for your comment" for what use is that, they are not aware that they do not earn for saying thanks, and they neither earn for my activities (posting in thier post)

Ive experienced the same thing a few times, but it just doesnt seem people read anything in regarding to the FAQ or Guidelines before starting posting. I did, but i believe once in a while it is good with a refresher :D

And i hope that you will be able to learn even more about these unwritten rules of MyLot. Everybody are different and has some lines which people shouldnt cross, though i believe most have the same feeling.
Be selective with your friends and always answer to your own discussions :D Since we would expect topic starter to have some sort of interest for the started topic.

MyLot i believe helps you increase your communication skills, as far as i believe. You also get a better feeling with different cultures.
Ive been on MyLot since April, but never really taken it to serious before mid August, so im not sure to call me new, old or what. I just know one thing, i still have lots i need to learn around MyLot.

hi downwindz,
It is always important to discuss here with in general acceptable social rules. It may be mylot or anyother platform of life. So the one who starts the discussion is the one to whom discussion belong to. So one of the basic is even if you dont agree or you dont like then either donot respond or if you respond then dont be rude or abusive and stick to the discussion unless you get to be good friends with the one who started the discussion. Show respect and if you feel the things are abusive in nature then you can report to the admin rather than being abusive here. I think these are unwritten laws here..though not much sure but i do have had my share of rude guys on my discussion.

I have been lucky in the matter of avoiding the rude guys so far, maybe because i dont have a profile picture yet, and then what sort of profile picture would i add. Im all changeing.
I think it is especially based on experience most polite to let the discussion starter repond first to any new starting comments, just like Thea was so kind to mention earlier on in this discussion.
We need to respect each person for thier different point of views and also try not to repeat what has earlier been said, people dont like copycats.
