Is life really so cheap?

Yet another news story about a young woman from my county: http://www.sacbee.com/ourregion/story/2183184.html The last one was found alive after 18 years. This one wasn't so lucky. She was a brilliant student, a medical researcher. Had she lived, perhaps she could have been the one to cure AIDs or cancer. She was due to be married. She could have been a mother. She leaves behind a grieving family and friends. Why? Why is life so cheap to some people? What is it in a person, that they could take a person's life to get what they want? Or because they didn't get what they wanted? Are any of us really safe from people like the one who did this?

sometimes i feel like reading this kind of news is getting like a normal thing which is not good actually. like news like this is becoming a norm which decades ago do happen only occasionally and not an every week thing. and i am not really comfortable reading this kind of news as this news really affect me in some way also. though not much to affect my personal life but in a way it makes me more careful now and live life now more cautiously. and i don't trust people that easy now.

Where my weird brain was going with that is that with all the news being online, people around the world hear about such things as they happen. And because we hear about them from all around the world and not just our little corner of the world, it may seem like it's happening a lot more often. Then again, maybe it IS happening a lot more often. idk

This is a very sad thing to happen. Have been following the story. I hope they find who did & they are punished to the max. I think there are so many loonies running around that noone is safe anymore.

There are a lot of loonies, but it does sound as if they are well on the way to getting this one off the streets.

I don't think there are any answers to those questions friend. You and I and most others have a conscience that knows the difference between right and wrong. It's not all black and white of course and we each see different shades of grey for any given situation but the people who commit these crimes must have a really skewed conscience. Or a mental disease.

No..I don't think any of us are safe from these type of people. It could be any one of us at anytime that draws their attention or catches their fancy. The thing that makes it even worse is that most nuts come off as normal people. It's a shame.

our world is made up of both good and bad . we have to live in this world . what other choice do we have? life is never cheap . ask a lady who has just given birth to a baby and you can know the preciousness of life . but some people tend to forget that . they think they can control other peoples lives . there are some people who go to any length to get what they want . we are never safe in this world. we should all ways be on our guard and if bad luck is not in our way, then maybe we can live one more day .

I'm afraid there always have been and always will be people like this. I often wonder what happened in the younger life of my third step father to make him what he was. I don't think there could be a more evil or twisted person that he was, even though to my knowledge he never killed anyone. I still wonder about him, all these years later, but I know there is no answer. I hope they catch the person responsible for this crime, if only to ensure it doesn't happen again - at his hands anyway, but there will be others. I have said I am never a pessimist, but in this case I'll have to plead guilty. There will always be others.

Unfortunately abuse just makes more abusers. And then there are those folks who weren't abused and yet they still turn out rotten. Sad...

Just sick isn't it? Some sicko just takes another's life with no respect or with no conscience about doing it....I hope they find the jerk that did it.....I can't imagine hiding someone in a wall much less killing them.....they should get the same treatment!

Life is valuable most to the entity involved. All you have to do is watch a prey reacting to a predator. In the case of humans taking other humans lives I am afraid they think of themselves as predators and the others only as prey. Until we can all put more value on human life there isn't much hope. No war, no capital punishment, no starvation.

prey - predator Hmm, interesting take one it. I wouldn't be surprised if you weren't at least partly right about that.

It is just so very sad... You know, when we get down on ourselves others tell us that we have so much to be grateful for etc and that is true a lot of the time but when I read articles like this one it makes me wonder how we can be truly happy when stuff like this goes on in the world. Yes, I am grateful for all I have but I am not grateful that something so horrible happened to somebody else, it is just too sad that a life can mean so little as you say... I don't know what else to say dawn, it brings tears to my eyes...

I have been watching this case on TV from th beginning. I understand that they now have a 'person of interest' - a lab technician. It is so sad. such a beautiful lady who looked so happy in the photographs shown. There are just so many sick people around and it happens allover the world. Yes, life is cheap to many people and this is unbearable to most of us who consider life precious. The answer to the question f safety? No, none of us are safe anywhere. We must all take precautions and unfortunately make our children aware of what could happen and what defensive action to take. Blessings and may her soul rest in peace.

Life is unpredictable. People have to face all kinds of dangers from nature and their partners. Nobody could say real safe. We should learn how to protect ourselves. That is very important.

It's so sad that our lives mean nothing to some people and unfortunate that we will never REALLY know if we are safe around certain people. This is the chance we have not choice but to take in life. All you can do is be cautious, careful and collect at times. It's so sad that there is a family (like many many out there) who have lost their loved one(s) to someone who cared not!
