I added a new interest earlier and I going threw some other ones I wanted to add. I noticed there is more than one mylot, friends, family etc interests. Which makes me wonder, which one to choose from when you start a discussion? If I click one mylot interest and put my discussion there, will others be able to see it that have the other mylot interest selected. OK did anything I type just make sense? Do you get what I mean? Should Mylot do something about duplicate interests?

Yeah it is like two-sided sword for mylot. user is spoiled since they can add any interest that they want to. But the downside is there will be a duplicate interest or commonly called redundant data. Well it is true that mylot developer should write a hell lot of new code just to erase this code or transfer discussions in duplicated interests. And yeah the worst downside is, you will get a little response for writing or comment in less reputable duplicated interest But i do have an idea, maybe the developer team could sort the interest by it number of member rather than the alphabetic sort so everyone would know which one is the most reputable interest, hence the least reputable interest will be showed in the last page rather than in the first page:) So anyone agree with me? Raise your hand :D

It does sound like that might be more helpful to many. But what do you think is best, post in a high volume interest and possibly get lots of good responses and maybe get buried under others? Or posting in less high members section and get more noticed? Does it really depend more on the discussion itself rather than were we post it?

i would prefer to join the interest that have a lot of member since i dont really care whether my discussion buried or something as long as i can get a lot of discussion notifier on my header and i can get a lot of new information that shared from a lot of mylot member:)

There are at least 2 reasons for the existence of duplicate Interests on myLot. 1) The person who created it could not be bothered to look at the list of existing Interests. It can be quite daunting or overwhelming to some. After several pages of not finding what he/she is looking for, the easiest way is to create another group. 2) The person who created it wanted to be at the top in the least possible time. In choosing one from several similar groups, consider the following points. a) If you want greater exposure, choose the one with the most members. The downside is there will be others trying to be noticed. The number of new discussions posted may bury our discussion. b) Choosing one with a low number can help in ensuring the discussion that we posted remain visible for some time. If the number of active members in the group is small, there is a possibility that our discussion will not get any response. c) Being active in a lower number group can propel you to the top in Interest ranking.

By the way I choose at least two groups of the same popular Interest. Sometimes there are interesting discussions in them.

You make great points here and I am glad you knew what I meant. After I typed it up it did look kind of confusing. There is pros and cons in both. If you post in the lower numbers interest you may be seen by more and have more responses, and if you post in the larger one you may get more responses as well or like you said it could get buried.

Me and the grandbaby - This is Addyson Grace. My son is dating her mother and we claim her as our own.
I noticed that too when I was looking for a specific interest, that there were several that were only different by one or two words. For instance: Having Grandchildren and Have Grandchildren and then there is I'm a grandmother and Grandma as two separate interests.

Yes, I did that as well. Mostly because it helps when I'm looking for discussions to respond to if I have more interests to look into! Thanks for the kind words about the grandbaby! She just left my house. I spent several hours today rocking my sweet Addyson!

beautiful grand baby by the way. Yes I noticed that as well like Help others and Helping others. I have added several duplicates to try to cover all my bases but I know there is probably more out there that I am missing.

I realise there are some duplication in this interest aspect of this site but its more that interests are sometimes similar than a direct duplication. I don't really pay attention to this. Whatever interest is applied is good enough as far as I am concerned.

This is true they are not always word for word duplicates and I think in the end it is a good thing for all users. The smaller groups help build your reputation at times and the larger groups have many pros to them.

Well if it's a good interest I choose them even if they are duplicates. Sometimes people will start good discussions in either section and I don't want to miss out on a good discussion. However if it's just something I'm mildly interested in I only choose one ( if I can help it LOL ) sometimes I forget that I already chose that one and accidentally choose the duplicate.

i think it's a good idea coz there are some discussions which can be covered by 2 or more interests. :)

The problem is if you post in the mylot interest instead of say the mylot.com one it won't be seen by the second one. If you post in one it won't be shown in the other.

I get your point. I think you should relate the discussion to the interest which you think that is the closest to the discussion. As you said, it might relate to various, so in that case you link to the interest in which you think you'll be getting the most replies from. Sounds logic, right?

Yea I think I get what you are saying. I guess i should be more on top of things eh? I like being able to add interests anyway so if Mylot switched things they may have to stop that,so I hope they don't.

oh!!! there sure are many interest duplicates. but when i want to make a mylot discussion... i choose this one. and the most number of members who are posting in that said interest. that way i know many of my fellow mylotters and friends would surely be able to read and response to my post or discussion. jhelai

This is true. I usually just hit the interest at the top of the page and start my discussion from there. That way I don't have to look threw all my interests in order to start one. However someone made a good point. With some interests the amount of people following it may be so big that my discussion may get buried so if I go with the less popular one I may get more views. However this one seemed to do ok.

Hi babyangie, I hardly started a new discussion so I didn't have much problem with the interest selection. But if I had to stared one and there are a few similar interest options, I will go for the top interest (more members). We can't choose the interest while responding to the discussion because even we say no to that interest, we will have our rank there if someone rate our posts. So just accept the interest to stop the annoying question about the interest in future. I think mylot hardly can do anything because there are a lot of things they need to do for that. And it is not worth to stop it. Some of us create new interest to have fun with friends here.

This is true. I will try to keep my eye on which interest has the most members and choose that one. I surely don;'t want mylot to go down to try to remedy this issue. I will just bend like I usually do because I do love it here.

yes it really happens like other member will just going to copy someones topic just for them to have their own topic. and i normally comments to both of them though differently and i guess that mylot just allowed members to do that as long as the explanation or their content is different.

Yes people do copy, but I was meaning the fact that there is duplicate interests, like if you look at add interest section there is mylot,mylot.com,mylot again things like this. I am sorry it was hard to understand heck I had a hard time figuring it out after I wrote it.
