How many of you out there have learned or tried to learn to play some sort of instrument? Which instrument did you choose? Why did you want to learn? Why did you stop learning if you gave up?I play a lot of different ones but the piano, drums and guitar are my all time favorite instruments to learn. I am pretty decent with them except guitar and piano are ones that if you dont play for awhile you really get rusty and its frusterating when you pick it up again and cant do what you use to. Whats some of your musical experience?

I have always wanted to learn every instrument we have at home but was never successful in doing so. My brother knows every instrument there is to form a band. He can actually be considered a one-man-band so I asked him to teach me a few of his instruments.I started learning the drums because I thought it is rare that you see a band with a girl on the drums and it feels like playing it would give you te sense of freedom. I tried learning it for a month or so but then since I got busy with college, I had to stop. There was never a chance again that he taught me because the drumset was brought to the province. THe only instruments left at our house right now are the guitars and the keyboards but I still couldn't find time to learn them. My brother has gotten busy wit work as well so there couldn't be any chance. I still do hope that someday I will be able to learn even a single instrument. I always envy those people who know how to play one. There are even those people who would just borrow the instrument they want to play because they can't afford to buy one. having most of the instruments at home makes me much more upset because I have everything and still couldn't find a chance to learn even a single one.

Our parents enrolled me and my sister to piano lessons way back when I was in fourth grade. I wasn't really good with it and learned a bit slowly. Guess I wasn't for piano. We stopped taking the lessons when our tutor got into an accident after a really big earthquake. But during the summer vacation on my sophomore year in high school, I tried learning to play the guitar on my own just because I didn't have anything to do that time. I ended up having the guitar as my primary musical instrument, and practically the only one I could play. Yeah, it gets you rusty sometimes when you haven't played for so long. But once you learned it, you can never unlearn. It's sort of like riding a bike.

Yes, I have. I picked the drums two years ago and wanted to learn how to play them because they're my favorite musical instrument. I did stop recently because I'm moving on to learning some bass guitar now. In fact, just ordered my first bass today...can't wait for it to arrive in here.

Bass is a lot of fun if you havent played guitar before its hell on your hands the first few months so make sure you get light strings and use a pick. I loved playing the drums it was great. Well it stil is lol

Yeah, so I've heard :) I hope to eventually drop the pick shortly after, from what I know even if you're not quite strong enough in your fingers, you'll still feel more loose when playing with withouth the pick. Drums were also harsh in my hands, going as far as to days of bleeding and blisters so it shouldn't be too weird for me ;) Good drumming!

This is what I'm doing right now! I recently purchased an electronic keyboard and I absolutely love it. I know these things have been around for many years now but all the same, I'm just getting started with it. I love the sound of the piano and this is one of the main reasons that I want to learn. Also, I just know that I'm going to experience a sense of achievement if I persevere with it. I don't know how to read sheet music or anything so I'm learning how to play by ear. I will hopefully learn how to read sheet music later on. I think that playing the piano is also good for the mind and tends to help you concentrate better, I don' know whether this is true or not but it's something I've heard. At the present time I'm learning how to play the 'Ave Maria', I really like this piece of music. Andrew

I play saxophone and guitar, and must say sax is a beautiful instrument to play. I was also member of the orchestra in my hometown. But playing guitar is something completely different.

I choosed to play the guitar. I still play till this day. I do say I am not very good at it though. I taugh myself how to play. Wasn't that hard to learn though. You just needed to learn the strings and the fret's and things like that. It's hard to play chords though.

I took piano lessons when I was a kid, I didn't want to and hated my piano teacher. I didn't learn much from her and remember her taking a pencil eraser up my back to make me sit up straight. I quit. On occasion I'll sit down and play if I'm in the mood to do it but it isn't impressive to anyone but me.

When I was about 12 or 13 I decided I wanted to learn to play the piano. My parents arranged for lessons which I took for a couple of years, but in time I realized I had no talent and that my parents were just wasting their money. Of course the lessons stopped. My problem was that my fingers would get tangled up in knots.

I think my first instrument has to be the violin. Though I never got to truly learn how to play it. I was in the school band long enough to learn how to hold and play some simple notes. Then much later during Junior high I started learning how to play the guitar and the piano. I'm pretty good with both but I'd have to choose the guitar since its much easier to remember the chords. Though I have gotten a bit rusty since I've been busy with college and stuff. I really to make some time and tune my guitar skills.

When I was a kid, I want to learn how to play drums. But I don't take it seriously though, because my parents can't afford to enroll me for drum lessons. When I got in HS, I engaged myself in learning how to play guitars. Then suddenly, my friends and I formed a band and I became the bass guitarist. We performed in our school's halloween party :) haha! We went to different schools in college, we've been very busy and it's hard to meet and jam. Due to this, we are quite disbanded. I found another band in college and got busy again. Hahaha! And even though Im not a kid anymore, I still wanted to learn how to play drums. :) And Oh, I even tried to learn how to play violin. But, I guess it's not for me. Hahaha! (So far, this is my longest comment. lol! :D )

i have never tried to learn to play an instrument but i always wanted to play the piano for some reason. just never pursued it. i think if you want to learn the piano you should have one at home to practice on and we could never afford one so i just never bothered to pursue it. maybe someday.....

when i was in grade school, i used to play flute (soprano, tenor then bass) we go to competition and we're earning popularity because of that. but it ended when i graduated. i tried to learn playing guitar but it's close to impossible and it bores me somehow. im a music lover but playing an instrument would complicate my life.

well, i am a person whose tastes change according to my whim and fancy and this is exactly what happened to my guitar classes. One day i just burst into my house when i was in my 4th or 5th class and informed my mother that i wanted to start guitar classes. Then after classes began, the guitar teacher said i wasnt holding the guitar properly and that i aint holding the strings tightly.. and there went my interest!! From that dat forwards, i stopped going for classes and havent touched my guitar since... i regret doing so.. but never managed to force myself to continue it..

I took a few violin classes a long time ago, but stopped playing it. Only recently I have started playing a little again. Its very rusty at the moment, but its getting there slowly. I learned the keyboard on my own and also the guitar with the help of my cousins music books. I Havent played those instruments for sometime now, so it will be interesting to see how I go.
