Are you happy with your country's leadership?

I'm an Australian, and we have a Labour Government who seems to be doing a good job, considering how the rest of the world is performing. It looke like Australia will be one of the first countries to raise interest rates, which indicates the worst of the recession is past. I think I would say that I'm happy with the performance of the Australian Government. So, what about your government? Are you happy with the job they're doing in the current circumstances? I would like to hear your thoughts.

As an Aussie too, I'd like to say that the only reason the Labor government is doing "well" is because they pretty well wrecked the massive surplus that Howard & Costello built up over their time in office and yes...plunged our public sector into DEBT. It smells a little Bush-esque to me, but perhaps only on a smaller scale. And name one thing that the Labor government has actually done which has been of practical use for us. Don't say saying "Sorry" or signing Kyoto because although those were significant "symbolic" type gestures, nothing practical has actually been done about either of the issues. Are we seeing any pollution targets? What ARE they doing about the problems in the Northern Territory? Why is the money going to schools going to ones that don't need it or who don't want to use it for the purposes to which the government is telling them to use it for? Why the push to "abolish Work Choices" before the implementation of something almost exactly alike? Now, I will say that the Opposition's leadership right now, is a pretty bad alternative but I also say that the mistake was letting Rudd & Swan in in the first place

Hi elenya, for a young lady, you sure have some mature political views. Maybe you're right, in what you say, but, polls show the majority of Australians certainly certainly thing Rudd is doing a good job. As far as I am concerned, Rudd has increased the pension, but a bill passed by the Howard government will see my wife and I seperated for over a year in the near furtur. These are issues that effect me personally, so you can see my judgement is maybe a little biased. Thanks for your response, and maybe you should consider a political career.

Hahah. Yes, I definitely agree that how we view the government is based on how their policies are affecting us at the moment. I mean, I'm totally biased too because I feel like they've messed up Youth Allowance and done some things that I consider "unfair" for my future (e.g. pension age bumped up to 67). :) I hope you didn't take it as an attack on your political beliefs or anything, because I believe in "agreeing to disagree". And as for a future in politics? Um...let's just say that all the politicking, bullet-dodging and voter-pandering turned me off than path a LONG time ago. xD

Right now in India we are being ruled by the Congress party. I think this party is far more better than the other main party which keeps fanning the hatred between the religions.I just hate this as a barbaric attitude and an utter waste of time in spending the energy on personal preferences instead of spending it more on constructive schemes helping this progressing country.

As a child we were taught that politics and religion don't mix. I wish some of the more radical leaders had learned the same lesson. Thanks for your response, balasri.

I think we cant blame the leaders or their leadership in our country because not they alone but even we are responsible because we choose them rather than they do it themselves.I think we should also keep the helping hand to remove all discrepencies from our country rather being just followers.

Hi Archie, you're right about us electing the government, but sometimes the choices on the ballot card aren't to brilliant, so we only have the choice of the better of two evils, if you get what I mean. Thanks for your response.

I´m happy with the job our President, Michelle Bachelet, has done while in office. She hasn´t done all I would have wished, but in my country we have still the burden of the Constitution that Pinochet had made. IO´m worried about our next elections as I don´t like much either of the candidates and a third one that looks better doesn´t stand a chance. She has taken care of the lower stratus of the people in a way no other president had done before in health, housing and transportation.

i find the leadership and the management of the country affairs to be ok here but there is too much politicking around the president that she seems not to be able to push faster for better developments. these politicking makes the country's leaders as that of "crab mentality". when they see someone doing good, they pull him down to their level which is not good. ann

It's all about making deals, for their own benefit. I gather on the whole you're ok with the leadership, though. Thanks for responding, ann.

Im not too much into politics , but as far as i know , the government here in Bulgaria is very corrupt and looks ony after their own interests... to get something new and good built in a city , there has to be some politician building a hotel nearby , so that good thing would benefit him. The ppl`s interest is probably on te lowest lvl of care , so... Yea no matter what the government is like considering ideas and views , im pretty sure its bad

It seems many governments around the world have corruption issues. Politicians seem to think what they can get out of a situation, rather than how will it help my people. A shame really! Thank you for your comments, StormWind.

we are a third world country but we are not hard hit by the recession, but at anytime of the year, everyone feels cynical about the government, every problem like oil price hikes(which is caused by the world market) is blamed on government officials. most would say that they dont believe the government anymore. i chooose not to think the same, but a lot of my countrymen think like this. it's great that your government has been doing well

I have been to The Philippines a few times over the past twenty-five years, and found the poverty there unbelievable. All Presidents over that time have promised to tackle that issue, and if corruption monies had gone to the cause, then the problem now wouldn't be so massive. These are my thoughts only. Thank you for your comments.

i am very disappointed over what is happening in our country. every thing is a mess. nothing is good coming out of our country or of any leader in the country. no matter who is seated as president nothing seems to help the country. it just gets from bad to worse.

I have to agree with you, it has been bad for many years, and until you, like a lot of countries around the world, can eliminate corruption from politics, the situation won't get any better. Thank you for your response.

I was never happy with our country's president. All of them were just full of airy promises and other loads of bull. The three presidents all turned out to be corrupt!

Hi Tantrums, other Filipinos have expressed the same thoughts as you. The Philippines need to get an honest leader, instead of a corrupt one who just wants for themselves. Thank you for your response.

I thought most Brits were happy with Blair, until he, as did Australian Prime Minister of the time, Howard started becomming Bush, puppets. You probably went off Blair around the same time I was lowering Howard's rating. As for Brown, well that's another story. Thanks for your comments.

no i am not, and i guess some countries too. we really can't avoid it. sometimes whatever happened in our country we used to blame our leaders. one of the best problem here in our country is the economy followed by poverty which of course we can't avoid, though poverty is not their fault already. its individual's fault like those who are poor and still have a lot of children and once their children grow up they will get married and have a lots of kids too and soon and so fort. funny things coz those who are rich only have one or two or few kids than those who are poor who have half a dozen or a dozen perhaps. funny though.

Hi homeshoppers, have you been happy with any recent government in the Philippines? Poverty is a big challenge for any government in your country, as is the fact that most families have large families, even though they can ill afford them. I think the laws about contriception must have a bearing on this. If fmily sizes were gut the number of people in poverty would gradually decrease. Thank ypu for your response.

We have a government which is living in the past. Except for the Prime Minister, there is not much to speak for the rest. As they say,"We deserve the government we get!" It is good to know that the Australian government is doing a fine job there and interest rates will be going up. This will surely help housewives and pensioners who put their nest egg in fixed deposit accounts. Our interest rate regime is in the pits!

Hi graceful dove, I'm not sure I agree with "we deserve the government we get" as in many cases the options are simply, "bad or worse," if you get what I mean. Sometimes you may agree with one party's policies, but not like the individuels running, whereas the other party might have brilliant candidates, but policies you don't agree with. Thanks for your response.

I'm not happy at all, since im in the philippines and election is coming this 2010 i hope there will be a great change in our country, since the previous president is all stupid enough to make it's people suffer especially the lower class, in here the poor gets poorer and rich gets richer, but it depends on one person on how he handles this kind of situation either it will be for good or bad.

Unfortunately, martinatintin, your country has been governed by corrupt presidents, who have put their own interests before those of the people, and until you elect an honest leader, the poverty problem won't get addressed as it should. Good luck for your 2010 election.
