My 9 year old daughter is going to try out for her school cheerleading squad. This is her first experience in cheerleading. She has taken dancing classes for 6 years and gymnastics for 4, so I think she should do well. It will also help her come out of her shell since she has to be loud! Great! LOL! Do you have a daughter in cheerleading or have been a cheerleader when you were younger. I only did it for one year, but it was fun and a bit demanding. Do you find it positive? or negative?

Hi realan, I do hope your daughter does well with her first cheer leading tryouts, enjoys her experience and makes it to the squad. From what you have shared with us in your post, she sounds like a natural, what with her previous dancing classes and gymnastics instructions. Hopefully too, it will also help her to come out of her shell. Please let me know where to send some extra ear plugs for you, if perhaps you might need them in the near distant future! *lol* Since I don't have any kids, I don't have a daughter in cheer leading. But there is a young neighbor girl where I live who is a cheerleader and has been one for quite some time. She is really sweet, quite athletic (good with hand stands and stuff), plus very out going (not to mention LOUD!!). *lol*... I think it can/could be both a positive as well as negative experience for a girl, but a great learning opportunity if she gets to do it. Especially a positive one if it helps her to learn to become more outgoing and communicate better with others and also develop her sense of self esteem. But a negative one, if she only feels the lure of just doing the popularity thing. Hope ya know what I mean. And hope your daughter makes it, enjoys it, and that you keep us all posted. When are her tryouts? When I was maybe like in junior high?? Not even sure what year now... I SO wanted to become a cheer leader. But looking back at that time in my life, guess I never really wanted it badly enough, to actually try hard enough to make it. But glad you got to be one for a year, realan. Even though I didn't make it through to getting to become a cheer leader, I do warmly remember my mother making me a pair of some little red corduroy shorts with a skirt thingie in/on the front and back of them. Thanks for your post and the warm, fuzzy memories. Take care, firefox333

Hi firefox! Thanks for responding. There doesn't seem to be to many cheerleaders on myLot. LOL! I just want to keep my daughter physically active. She also likes basketball, so I gave her the choice of cheerleading or basketball. Thanks for the offer of ear plugs, I have a feeling I definitely may need them. I definitely need them when she has her two best friends over for a sleep over. Crazy kids! Hope if she makes it, it will be a positive experience. Her school is small and I don't see the popularity issues just yet. There are some little cliques, but she doesn't really pay attention to that. I'm more worried that all these activities will interfere with her school work. I always tell her that her studies come first and if I see a problem then she will be pulled from the activity that is interfering. She likes to dance very much and is very flexible, so she hopes cheerleading is something she'll do well in. I think she also likes the little outfit and pom poms. LOL! She is trying out on Friday! Thanks for the encouragement. Will let you know. Take care!

Hey realan, Yes I also noticed there didn't seem to be too many cheerleaders here at myLot, nor at at least not too many who were able to respond to your post in question. *winking and lol*... Soooo, that's partly why I thought I'd send a reply your way. Maybe though, there are "real" cheerleaders who belong to myLot, but they are/were just busy with practices or tryouts at the time! *lol*... Hope all goes well for your daughter with her tryouts on Friday. *sincere smiles and wishing her all the best*... If she does get to make it, hopefully it will not only be a great learning experience for her (and you, too!), but also the beginning of a positive, yet fun and productive road down her highway of this path called life. Take care, firefox333

Hi! Hope all is well! BTW everything went well with practice and she is loving it. Pep Rally this Saturday. Yipee! Bad for me though, I have to commit to a bake sale and other fun stuff! LOL! Hoping that it doesn't get any louder at my house then it already is. She likes to have friends over to practice! EEK! You can still be a cheerleader BTW! Have fun!
