Do you donate blood? This was really my first time, other than way back in high school when I almost filled the bag but it didn't fill quick enough so it was not able to be used. :(
I was driving back to work from my lunch break last Friday and noticed there was a blood drive right down the street, so I decided to stop by after work and I am glad I did.
How often do you donate blood? I would like to go every 6-8 weeks if I can. How old were you the first time you donated your blood? Was there anything in particular that inspired you (other than just doing a good deed and helping a fellow human being)?

Yes, I've donated blood once when there was a blood drive. I just want to experience it and to help. But it's quite an experience I kindda fainted, I felt nauseated. It's because I stand-up a bit too quick when I should be moving slowly. Everyone panic especially my friends and instructors. They let me lay down again and I just felt a bit fuzzy after. I still want to donate blood someday, for the sake of helping and it also helps clean your blood..

Next time you try, I suggest drinking plenty of EXTRA fluids, especially water and fruit juice, before you go. Also, eat something within a few hours before you go. If you go with an empty stomach you are more likely to feel faint. Best wishes!

Hi thanks for the tip... I have a news a almost fainted again when I'm assisting in the O.R. LOL. There's just no time to eat that's why. I'll remember next time I'll have full stomach when I'm going to scrub.

I have never donated blood. I doubt that they would take mine, take too many med. My dad was a big donater. He donated gallons when he was younger.

Hi bethany1202 I would love to donate blood but they'refuse
to let me do so as I had hepatitis a number of years back
and they will not take blood from people who have had that
particular disease. I do so much appreciate all who donated'blood when I was so ill with bleeding diverticulitis and had to have four'
blood transfusions to cure it. I was darned glad to have my'life
saved by some generous donor. wish I could donate blood.

I used to donate blood many years ago. I would do it every 2 - 3 month or so.
But now I am unable to donate anymore. The doctors prevent me from donating any more.
I am a type 2 diabetic, am taking pills daily so not wise to give blood to other.
I started donating blood when I was 18 and that was some 20 odd years ago.

I used to give all the time. But I've been on some new pain meds that won't allow me to give right now. The last time I gave blood was at Halloween last fall. I started giving blood in 1997 after a tornado hit Central Arkansas. It destroyed 2 homes of friends near us, and the wife was injured.

I only donated blood once, it was to get free concert tickets. It was great because we became friends with the deejay and we keep in contact with him still. This was in Florida, it was for Way-FM. I haven't been since, I'm not a fan of needles even though I married a nurse. She was always trying to get me to let her nursing friends practice putting IVs in, I politely declined. I think you did a good deed, we should all be as selfless.

LOL Good stuff! I don't like needles, either, and I always get a bruise that lasts for about a week, but it only takes a few minutes, so I think it's worth it and I don't mind doing it. I feel good knowing I am helping someone who needs it.

Hello my friend Bethany1202 Ji,
Well, a smy memory goes back, I too remmeber, it happened only during my school days, when one of my class mate felt down and laid un-concious with lot of bleeding from her head and after we rushed to hospital, blood was needed, and some of us rose to noccasion, I was too instrumental in giving blood. Till date I feel that I would have continued. Today at 65 yrs, no one needs my blood. I am now out-dated. May God bless You and have a great time.
