Have you seen the visitor counters in websites showing the total number of people who have visited that site. I have also added them to my website but the fact is, I really don't understand how do they work. Can you tell me how they work?

The count is based on the number of IP that visited the site from what I know. I think when you visit the site multiple times within one given day, it only counts as one visit. I am not sure though. Anyone who can confirm this?

Basically it records the number of visitor on a website.. And can be detail into: - the number of page the visitor has explore - how long the visitor has been the site (taking the hours and date) - how open the visitor visits the website - what are the pages he visited most and not - how did he know or came across with the visited website (referral or direct) These are just some of the details which a visitor counter works..

It's just simply showing the traffic comes to your blog or website. But aside from that, I think there's no more use of it. But if you want to know what countries visits your website, also add some flag widget.
