Why do we spend so much on memorials?

Why do we spend so millions on memorials when people are starving all over the world? Memorials are built all over the world....why do we do it?

It's not for us. It's for the persons coming ahead to dig out the history and for the coming generations to remember achievements of the society by a person and to learn something from his/her character. To Motivate Society. But expenditure these days is going verymuch on these for some personal reasons and motives. which is radiculus.
