State requirements

My husband and I just recently moved to a new state. That new state is New York. One of the huge hassles for us was getting our cars registered in this state. It was so much worse than Pennsylvania. It cost me $200 just to get a license and my car registered and now later today I have to go and have an inspection and emissions test done. Apparently my license will be good for 6 years now (sucks because we're moving back to PA in 2, ugh) and I will only have to renew the registration every two. Inspections are yearly.
What does your state require you to do yearly to keep your license and allow you to drive legally?

Hello,
actually, I responded to this discussion already but looked like it never post that respond for me at all. Any way, I live in california and the law over is not that hard tho. License plate pay only when you first buy a car or change from state to state. The registration fee is update everyday, and some cars might require to have a smoke checked...(that's for old car only).
I heard in Boston or somewhere there have a law to pay tax on those car every year.... I hope it not happen cuz it is way too much. some people never want to change the license plate if u plane to go back home in 2 years.

The registration you can do every year or every two years its up to you. There are no inspections here in New Mexico. I know the difficulty of New York registration. Its expensive and so much red tape you have too go thru. I lived there for about forty-four years. When I moved too NM I couldn't believe the simplicity of registering a car here. Its a shame that it can't be easy and inexpensive in every state. Every state has different rules and regulations and it can become crazy trying to keep track especially if you have more than one car.
