The number one women's single's player in the world, engaged in a verbal tirade against a lineswoman, at the U. S. Open Tennis tournament in Flushing Meadows, NY, against Kim Clijsters after the woman called a controversial foot fault at a crucial point in the match. Serena let loose with a few "f" words which rhymes with bucking. She lost the match after the call, because she received a point penalty for the foot fault. and a second point penalty because she had received an earlier warning and the second time was a point loss. She was fined ten thousand dollars, she eventually apologized to all. www.espn.com Do you think the tennis association should suspend Ms Williams for a period of time?

now that we already know that she has been fined ard 100 k us$ for that, the question of suspension seems unlikely. but she has been warned that if she repeats sucha behavior she could well have a much tougher punishment. honestly a financial punishment to rich layers does not affect them much, there should be more 'humiliating ' punishments, exactly like the nature of her act.

....Hi there arvindneemuch, I tend to agree with you, even though I admire her skill on the tennis court. When you rise to the top of your game and you have people looking up to you as a role model, especially young children who aspire to play as well as she does, you need to take some responsibility for your actions and your mouth. It was so unladylike as well. If it happens again, they should have no choice but to suspend her for inappropriate behavior. She was just named Female Athlete of the Year. Doesn't matter to me, control yourself. Thanks for your response. Take care.

Hi artistry, She was upset with just cause and who would not be after fighting so hard for every point. WHat was not acceptable, in my view, is the reaction and the language used against a person who made a mistake. There are different stances and angles and she could have seen it, although wrong, and that is why she called it. I think that she, the player, realized the intensity of her remark made in the heat of the moment and that is why she apologized, I think that if this is a regular response from Ms Williams, then yes, make her realize and give her time to rethink things. If not, then I think the fine and her public appology should be enough.

...Hi there, You are quite right, there are different angles, and the lines person must have thought she foot faulted. But Serena thought she made a bad call, but she was also stressed from just about losing the match and responded inappropriately I am sorry to say. I guess I sort of agree with you, but the outburst made me cringe, and I do think the way she acted will stick with her, and people will remember for sometime in the future. She did herself an injustice, even if there is no other penalty for her actions. Take care.
