so mylotters, my favorite time of year is coming up, my version of christmas. i am talking about halloween. ahhhh yes. i love all thing halloween, the outfits, the general revelry. now my question is thus.....all our lives our parents have told us that we must never, ever take candy from strangers. it is one of the first things that we learn as kids right. so how come these same parents allow their children to go trick or treating. in which realm does this make sense. talk about mixed signals, how can you try to instill something in those little people who are so impressionable, then in the next breath tell them that it is completely okay to go to strangers houses and randoms to beg for candy. anyone else with me on this....?

For my kids, I tell them not to talk to strangers period but on Halloween night, I go with them trick or treating and I do tell them to say "Trick or Treat" and "Thank you." I don't see myself just letting them go off by themselves to strangers houses to trick or treat anytime soon. Then when we get home, I go very carefully over the candy to make sure it hasn't been tampered with.

the very idea still really freaks me out, but then again, at the best of times i am a pretty paranoid person, ha ha. but it is good that you make that distinction to them.

My parents did the "Don't talk to strangers" thing to me and never let me go trick-o-treating. I also got the poisonous candy story and the razor blades in toffee apples lecture. I felt so left out. I guess parents feel slightly safer letting their kids on out on Halloween because there ARE so many kids out as well. I don't know, if you're just trick-o-treating in your neighborhood, I guess it's slightly safer.
