Explanations and the economy, feels like an excuse or a bad dream doesn't it?

When you are reduced to asking your family for help or not being able to ask your family for help because they are in as deeply as you, doesn't it feel like an excuse or a copout, "Well the economy is bad for everyone." Even my friends with job security or tenured positions are still pinching pennies and trying to deal with the economy and the fact that it has raised the price of everything sky high. And it is infuriating that our public servants such as our senators and congressmen who are only too happy to give our money away to failing multi-billion dollar companies while we lose our homes and jobs.
If they are public servants then why do they pull in a cool $172k per year (that's the salary of a junior member of congress) plus benefits when none of their "employers" can afford gas, food, and diapers? If I were making that kinda money I would at least try to pass laws and bills that benefitted the people who put me there.
We all know the economy is bad, and when our funds fall short we swallow our pride and sometimes have to ask friends or family for help. In a lot of cases they can't help us, why? Because of the darn economy everyone is floundering and drowning in too many bills versus not enough money. What are we to do. Excuses or reasons we still gotta pay our bills. It all feels like a very, very, bad dream! What's to be done and will it happen soon enough to save any of us?
