I have Mono. They nurse did bloodwork and it came back positive. She sent a letter to all my college professors from this semester letting them know that for the next 10 days I needed to rest because Mono at my age took longer to recover from than someone who was 19 or 20.
All of them have been very understanding except for one. It is a class that only meetw once a week for an hour. She said that because of the nature of the class, and the fact that it only met once a week, that I could miss one class and after that she would remove 5 points from our grade for every class I miss. That will lower my grade in a hurry.
Have you ever had a boss or a teacher that wasn't very understanding about an illness that effected you or a family member? How did you handle it?

Could you appeal to the dean of the college? I did that once. I had some health problems that were absolutely unavoidable, and one of my professors was like a Nazi. It was actually work I could do while recovering, but even though I had an A in the class, he insisted I had to be in the classroom to get the entire "experience" of his teaching. I made an appointment to meet the dean, talked to him, and he "changed" the mind of the professor.

Well unfortunately, this discussion ended up moot because I had to drop out of school completely this semester due to my back issues. I have an MRI scheduled for tomorrow to find out what is going on back there! LOL
But in answer to your question, no. There was nothing the dean or any of the administration could do. They said that because she had clearly outlined the attendance policy on her syllabus that their hands were tied.

my youngest had that when he was 4yrs. he got it from drinking pop after an older neighbor kid the doctor said. he was in hospital for a whole month. im sorry this happened to you. yes, i was let go by the last elderly lady i worked for because i was getting exhausted from being there every day 7 days a week for 6 hrs. and she didnt want me to take a day off and have someone else 1 or 2 days a week or at all even. i took a day off cause i was coming down with that H-pylori and didnt even realise how bad it was going to get and she let me go.
