Learning to Drive

My daughter recently got her drivers license. She was later than most people getting it, for various reasons. So she's 19 now, which was actually a good thing, because she didn't have to wait the additional 6 months of driving with another licensed driver after she took and passed the driving test. (Our state requires that kids under 18 drive for a minumum of 6 months with an licensed driver that is over 21.) Here's how it works here. You take the written test. If you pass it, you get a temporary license. You start driving with an adult driver. You can take your road test after you've driven for 30 days. If you're under 16, you will have to drive with another licensed driver until you turn 16. Once you are 16, you have to drive with a licensed driver for a minumum of 6 months. If you're over 18, this 6 month law doesn't apply to you. What are the laws in your state or country? When did you start driving on your own?

I've had mine for nearly 40 years - back then if you had a training license you could drive with any licensed driver until you had your real license - I got that about 3 months after my 16th birthday and was free to drive on my own after that

I've had mine since I was 16. I took Driver's education the summer before I was 16. We did classwork and learned all the things we needed to know for the written test. After everyone had their permits, then we got to drive the driver's ed car, which was this really UGLY Dodge K car. It didn't even have a model name!

I also wanted to learn how to drive. Maybe next week I will be enrolling in a driving school. It is a necessity now. Since most people are travelling. And i love traveling a lot.

That would be cool. My other daughter is taking drivers education at college. She wanted someone besides me or her dad to teach her! I guess she saw all the frustration that we had with her sister and decided to not put us through it again! Anyway, it will be great when they can all drive on their own, and won't have to depend on others to get them where they need to go.

I got my temporary license when I was 15. I didn't get my reguler license untill I was 19. I got nervous is why I wanted so long.I failed it once before then. I finally got up my nerve and went back and passed.

You sound just like Lauren. She had her learner's permit when she was 14. Then she didn't pass the driver's part of the test, and got scared and wouldn't drive for the longest time. the guy that gave her the first driver's test was a JERK. It took me forever to convince her to take the written part again.
