Have you heard about aspartame and sucralose? They are ingredients in making artificial sweeteners, diet softdrinks and energy drinks with no sugar added. They are alternatives to sugar. But are they safe to our health? According to research they are not really safe and can cause various diseases like brain damage, etc. Will you take the risk of drinking diet softdrinks and taking artificial sweeteners if you want to lose weight and yet they would in fact gradually make you sick? Here are the following links about this report. http://www.apfn.org/apfn/sick.htm -- about aspartame http://www.abramsroyalpharmacy.com/html/sucralose_warning.html -- about sucralose

It's good to see people are waking up to the dangers of artificial sweeteners and other fake foods. I have tasted stevia and won't use that every day, because of the after-taste, but I would like to plant sugarbeet and extract the sugar from that. Anyone with experience reagrding sugarbeet?

It's a nice strong sweet taste when you eat it, but that strong flavour turns a little not-so-nice afterwards. It's almost similar to peppermint, but without the 'sting'.Difficult to explain it, it's quite unique.

Actually, I have never tried stevia either. I have only found about it while searching the internet. But what you say about its after-taste makes me think twice and also its high price according to informations I had researched. Anyway, what is stevias' after-taste really?

Hi levite, my doctor actually allowed me to drink light colas with no sugar added. And he also allowed the sugar free sweeteners. But I have heard also about the side-effects. My fellow diabetics contend that they had been using these artificial sweeteners for the past two decades. They actually seem sane still, LOL. They say that if it's your time, then it's your time. They never say if it's my time, it's my time. But I suppose it is really important to be cautious. Thanks for reminding me to refrain from drinking those unhealthy colas.

Gosh, that is very true. Life is God's gift to us and we must take care of physical being. Our body is actually the temple of the Holy Spirit. Thanks levite for reminding me.

Have you heard about stevia, it is a natural sugar substitute made from natural plant extracts. Although I also believe that if it is not yet our time to depart from this world nothing bad might come to us yet it is also important to take care of our health as this is one of God's greatest gift for us.

I am shocked to hear that cold drinks have this which causes severe diseases related to BRAINS! Even artificial sweetners are in the list too. Is it present in the sacchrins too which is used in place of sugar by diabetic person.

yeah, thats the same thing that artificial sweeteners for diabetics are made of. I prefer natural sweeteners like fructose instead, they have more calories, but at least they are not as harmful

aspartame is an excitotoxin, it excites nerve cells so much that they burn down, they die from over working. Aspartame also can cross blood-brain barrier which means it can kill brain cells as well. One rule that i always use when i pick food is that the closer to nature the better, anything artificial is not that good. even synthetic vitamins are less then perfect for us. Go with products that are closest to nature, least processed and with no artificial additives.

Yes, truly, natural sugar is still the best. Have you tried stevia and saccharin, they are natural also coming from certain plant extracts as a sugar substitute.

Haven't tried those two, my grandmother who is diabetic uses fructose. It's made of plants as well and from what i read although it has calories you don't need as much for cold drinks to make them sweet. Where she lives there is a choice between fructose and artificial sweeteners, so she made a healthier choice (well, i forced her to make that choice lol). For myself, i usually use raw brown sugar, honey and fruits when i want something sweet. Some dried fruits taste better then candies anyway :)

I think that these artificial sweeteners are not good for you at all. I have never thought that this fake sure is a good idea and this is just more proof that I was right. Eating fake food can't be good for you at all, and I don't think it can be good especially when the original food that the fake one is trying to imitate can be bad for you as well. I would rather take the risk of getting fat than getting sick from eating fake food.

I agree with you. I would rather take sugar in small quantities than taking artificial sweeteners which have not been proven to be really safe for our health. After all, they are just chemicals mixed in the laboratories.

Hi levite! Yeah, I've read about those artificial sweeteners too. That's why when I get the chance to drink sodas, I always prefer the regular ones (ie, the ones that doesn't say: "no sugar"). I don't softdrinks that much though. I only drink it when there are no other beverages available (ie, water). I'm very particular with sweets actually, we don't store sugar at home. Our only source for sugar are desserts and the like. But when it comes to making drinks like lemonade, etc., we don't add sugar in it :D

I also don't drink softdrinks often. I just drink it occassionally and like you I prefer the regular softdrinks too.
