8 (yes 8) Officials overseeing the Everton v AEK Athens match tonight

Hi stebiz, There is one 6 officials in that game and all the Europa League games. There is only 2 officials at the back on the goal post (one at each goal post). I think the officials for the goal post is to assist the referee when there is an offense made in the penalty box or if the ball cross the goal line.

Are you sure there were 4 goal side judges and not just 2? I'm pretty sure there are just 2 additional refs next to the usual 4... Anyway, I don't think they are of much help. I think it's just something they did to bring the refs some extra money... I think the only technology useful is the camera set along the goal line.

How about everyone just accept that referees make mistakes and live with it without the need for technology. What does technology prove - take Eduardo referee says penalty, technology says no penalty but then when appealed there was no dive. So was the referee right and technology wrong?

Yes. I absolutely agree. Tv technology is the way to go for soccer. All the gossips and discussion on offside and diving is driving me mad. A simple tv technology can solve them. What's so disruptive about tv technology and replays? It will only take at most half a minute. It is better than referee making half-baked/split second decision that may be affected by the player's aggressiveness or the atmosphere of the home crowd. 8 officials is insane and does not help at all. I hope Fifa will wake up and push for technology.
