Planning for retirement?

I have been hearing that these days, it's harder and more costly to save up for your retirement. What are you doing about it? Do you have a savings account, or a 401K? Do you have some on-the-side earning system you use to build up the comfort of your older years? Personally, I have a 401K, but I have not added money to it for almost 5 months now, and it still earns me money! As far as on the side earnings, Mylot so far is about it, as I don't have time for much else... What about you? Dive Deep!

I certainly invest in 401k plan from my employer, and I will save some percentage from my paycheck to the 401k plan. That is my saving for the future. As you already know that you can't rely on social security anymore. I simply have put aside some earning for myself when I reach the retirement age too.

I still have good hope on 401k today, even though the DOW is down 300 points today. I will continue to diversify my 401k money, buy down, and gain extra share. Who knows, the market might be up again, and I might gain share in the near future. So, if you extra money, don't give up on 401k, it is your retirement to think about here.

It is harder now then it used to be. There are few jobs where you get hired at 18 and retire at 65. I am already retired, but then while i was working most of the time I was between jobs, and so when I got married I gave up working outside the home so all I had was the small inheritance I got from my father and my maternal grandmother. My husband worked for the Cn and they have a retirement pension and during the time i worked as a telemarketer I had a little for my Canadian Pension but that only gives me less then $20 a month. But my husband also got some stocks and he put that into his retirement, but he is not that well, possible Als, and we had to fix up the house so much of those stocks will be gone soon. So now i save money from my oLD aGE security and my Saskatchewan pension I got when we were in Saskatoon. But it is not much.

Well I'll be 62 in October, I had planned to retire at 67, then I got laid off! I have no other retirement package, just social security! I've been looking for work almost 1 year. We've been living on unemployment for that time! I had a nice piece of land in Mexico where I currently am living! I owed $2000 on the property and couldn't afford the mast 3 payments and they took it away and kept the money! I was worried about the unemployment benefits expiring so I was forced to retire early! I'll get $1275 a month we can make it on that but that's about all! I'm still looking because you can earn while you are getting benefits, but this sure isn't what I had planned! Iwas making $76,000 a year and sure miss it! tdenex
