Iv'e heard people with seasonal effective disorder get depressed at certain times of the year. Is there ways to over come this disorder? what works for you? I dont know if i would say mind is a disorder of any kind but it defenetly effects me right before winter. I think its the thought of being cooped up inside with all the snow and ice.

yea it's basically a form of depression that affects people only in particular seasons some cures include controlling the lighting and temperature of your house and the traditional antidepressents. Some people even move to change the seasons like across hemisphere's at least that's what i learned in psych class.

Pretty much sums it up. Winter happens to be my favorite season so it doesn't really affect me.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is brought about by less exposure to sunlight during the Winter months because the days are shorter and people generally avoid being outside when it's freaking cold. Less exposure to sunlight increases melatonin and decreases seratonin. For people who are predisposed to depression, this will affect them more acutely than the average person. Just spending more time outside or using special light bulbs that are brighter than usual will alleviate mild forms of SAD. For more severe forms there's light therapy, where the person sits in front of a box with special light bulbs in it for thirty minutes to an hour each day.
