Can minor mistakes in punctuation marks make a difference to a sentence?

I wrote an online test and passed the language test, but flunked in the grammar. The reason was because of some minor mistakes in punctuation marks. When I look back, I can see that there were some mistakes in my sentences, but when you're writing to a tight deadline, these things do happen, and it did. What's your say in this?

Yes, punctuation can make a big differnce. For example, a statement can easily be turned into a question if you accidentally put a question mark at the end rather than a period.

Thats right, but the kind I mistakes I made were in commas. It so happens that when I'm writing a sentence, I normally try to type as fast as I think and this leads to such problems where I make silly mistakes. Anyway thanks for the post.
