Ah, geez. Now my dog just got stung by a bee.

Madness! It's madness I tell ya! First, my dogs are chasing a mouse around the house. Now, my smallest Maltese, Lilly (who weighs only 5 pounds) came barreling towards me, right into my lap shaking badly. She kept looking at on particular spot on her... uh... bottom. Seems she got stung where she goes pee pee from. How do I know it was a bee? Because she brought the darned thing in with her. It apparently got caught in her hair and fell off in front of me. I could see it was starting to die. I searched and searched but did not see the stinger so at least that's one good thing. I've been watching her carefully for an allergic reaction but, so far, she's just scared and probably hurting where she got stung. Have you ever had or do you have a pet who has been stung by a bee? Actually, it may have been a hornet because it seemed larger than a honey bee but had black and yellow stripes. This is the first time I've ever had a pet who got stung. I had one dog who got bitten on his nose by my pet love bird (boy was he ever embarrassed after that!) and a dog who was bitten by an ant, but never a bee sting. If you have any pet and bee story, please share it so my little Lilly doesn't feel so bad.

Grandma used to put a paste of baking soda and paste on my brother when he got stung and she did it for me the one time I got stung. It made it feel much better. Can you try that on Lilly? I hope she feels better soon!

Thanks, dragon. I didn't even think of the baking soda paste. My mother used to put that on my sister and me when we were little. I was forever getting stung, especially on the feet because I was always outside barefooted. I completely forgot about it when Lilly got stung! I'm a bad momma, I guess. She's much better now. I gave her a doggy Xanax and she calmed down, only licking the sting occasionally. After she had a nap, she's been just fine, with an occasional check to see what was going on down there. But, she's breathing fine, eating fine and is loving all the attention she's gotten all day.

Thanks for the tip! I actually was scratching her there today. She got scratched all over and was soaking up all this sympathy! LOL She's a pretty happy gal right now. She's had 2 extra treats over what she normally gets in one day and has been in my lap practically all day. She'll probably be hard to live with for awhile because she was plenty spoiled before this happened. She's much better and is almost sitting without leaning to one side now. She just drifted off to sleep so maybe I should, too. All the dogs, the cats and the hubby are sleeping. That's normal around here for me to be the last one and I usually stay up until 1 or 2 in the morning but this has been an exceptional day. So, without further ado, I'll say goodnight. Thanks once again for the advice.

I have just never heard of that happening before. Sorry Lily I can however see how it may happen if you do like we did, we have always kept our little Maltese with long hair and I guess if she traps the hornet/bee then they sting. I also had no idea ants will bite. Learn something new every day. Thank You my Friend.

She's calming down now. I had to give her one of the pills I got from the vet for my other dog who is terrified of thunder. She's still kind of standing on her hind legs, though, even lying down. Apparently, it's hurting her pretty badly. Poor thing. I know what it feels like because I've been stung plenty of times. I keep her hair kind of short so I'm pretty sure she sat down on this bee. Her hair is about 2" long right now and that's the only way I can think of for a bee to get to that part of her anatomy. I hope she's able to pee! Yep, ants do bite. I learned that once when I was cutting the grass. Apparently, I had stopped for a minute and happened to be standing right on or beside an ant hill. Dozens of the nasties started climbing up my pants (jeans) and started biting me. I had my pants half off before I even got to my back door! LOL My dog apparently did the same thing, stood on an ant hill. When he yelped, I noticed ants all over the place and some had already climbed up into his hair. If anything, I think ant bites hurt worse than bee stings.

Hi Marti. We once had a dog before. She was about 2 months when we had her. She was one of the 7 puppies who were born with my former boss' pet dog. The dogs are just street dogs so they are not that expensive and not expensive to maintain. Because our pet dog was still young, she always barks that my wife became too irritated with her. Especially if we tie her in front or at the backyard. Our rented house is made of wood so even if the doors and windows are closed, her voice is still heard inside. You can hear that loud but little high pitch voice, seems like calling for help, always. Sometimes, I let her run around without her tie. Or sometimes, she can get off her tie. lol. Maybe the tie was just big for her so she can get loose easily. She actually never bitten by a bee. But one day, she got loose again. We searched for her in the neighbors but we never saw her back again. She never went back home. Maybe, someone saw her and bring her.

Awww! That's so sad! I hope, like you said, that someone saw her and took her home. That happened to me once, only I was the one who found a dog. We had a Siberian Husky just walk up onto our porch and lay down like she lived there all her life. I thought it was funny, how she seemed to be right at home. But, she wasn't our dog and she had a collar on and seemed to be well-fed and loved. So, I made posters, explaining that I found this dog in the hopes that I would find her owner. My sons and I drove around, putting up these posters on telephone poles. We were putting up the third poster when a girl came running after us, yelling that she thought it was her dog. I asked her to describe it and she did. I asked her if it had a collar or not and she said yes, a red one. It was definitely her dog so she got into my car and I drove her to our house to pick up her dog. I would have kept the dog if I had not found it's owner, though. She was such a sweet-tempered dog! But, I'm glad I found her owner because I already had two dogs and really didn't need a third one. I know what it's like when a dog barks a lot! LOL Mine get stupid every now and then and go outside if they hear something and start barking, even if it's late at night. It's usually just the geese on our lake that they hear or a car going past our house but it is irritating! We have a small "doggy door" so the dogs and cats can go in and out when they want (the dogs can't get off our deck because we built a gate to close off the stairs to them) and I have to close that door sometimes because they won't stop barking when they go outside. I also close the door whenever my husband and I are both away from home so the neighbors don't complain about their barking. Luckily, our neighbors don't live too close to us but the sound of their barking 'carries' over the lake. We also hear our neighbor's dogs barking sometimes, but not too often. I call my dogs "my little doorbells" because they always let me know whenever someone is coming to our house.

You have to wash the area where she was stung carefully. Look closely for the stinger, even with a magnifying glass if u have to. If you can't find it you will have to take her to a vet if she doesn't stop shaking.. REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/ CARE FOR YOUR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U...

Thank you for that sound advice. She is fine now. The day after she was stung, she licked at the sting a few times and she was 100% better today. She seems to have forgotten all about it. I did look for the stinger but found none. The bee was caught up in her hair and I believe the stinger stayed with the bee because I did look, very thoroughly. Today, though, she was happily munching on a piece of rawhide and, as I was about to take it away from her because she had chewed it down to the size of a quarter, she just swallowed it. I freaked! But, she got it down okay. I'll just have to keep an eye out for when it comes out the other end and hope it does. She's a trip, for sure! Always getting into some kind of trouble, although it's usually harmless. Don't worry about her getting all the love she can handle and more... she gets that every single day. She's one spoiled little girl and my sweetheart.

My little dog got stung by a bee last summer. Poor baby was outside to potty and we had a nasty yellow jackets nest in the yard. Those are some aggressive bees too. I think all of us got stung at least once last summer. We finally got rid of them but I was scared when my little Max got stung because he acted a bit sick for a couple of hours afterwards.

Aww! Poor little Max! Lilly was shaking pretty badly for a few hours afterward and would keep licking the spot where she was stung, but she was breathing well and, after I gave her a doggy Xanax in some lunch meat, she calmed down and even ate a bit of her food and the treat she got for being such a 'brave' little girl. Once she calmed down from the Xanax, she seemed fine and actually let go of me for awhile to take a nap. But, she's been clinging to me pretty constantly since then.

Our Smooth Chow Chow got stung on her upper lip. It swelled up really big ..... made her look so funny! Yes, we took her to the vet, because we didn't know how it would effect her. (See, she was our baby!) But, she helped herself, licking it often, and acting really "out of it" but she was fine. I remember the vet did give her something, but I can't remember what it was ..... probably a shot to counteract the poison from the bee/wasp. I hope your baby gets better very, very soon!

Thank you, mrsctb7. She is much better now. She licked the sting a bit the following day, then she was back to normal. Nothing swelled up; she just had a small lump where the bee had actually stung her but that went away by that night. She proved to me that she's fine and dandy now because, yesterday, she caught and killed a mouse that had come in to be out of the rain. She weighs only 5 pounds but she has proven herself to be an excellent 'mouser'. She got yet another extra treat for the mouse. She's one happy baby right now.

My dogs have gotten into everything at one time or another. I would keep an eye on her, and baby benadryl can be your best friend. I have used the benadryl with great success when they've been bitten or had another allergic reaction to something. I can handle the bee stings over ticks. Those things totally gross me out.

Sorry to hear about your little Maltese Lilly getting stung by a bee - how is she now? Hope she didn't have an allergic reaction. A few years ago one of our dogs got stung by a bee on her face - and within minutes her face started to swell and she couldn't see because her face was so swollen. She was having an allergic reaction, so we rushed her straight to the vet who gave her an anti-histamine shot. She was fine and gradually the swelling went down, but it was very scary to see her like that. She has never been curious about another bee since! I hope Lilly is ok.

She's doing great now, abbey. Thanks for asking. She, luckily, did not have an allergic reaction. I was worried about that and kept a close eye on her for hours after the sting. I was also concerned that, even if she didn't have an allergic reaction, she would have a bad reaction because she's so small. But, she came through it just fine. The small bump at the sting site went down by that evening and she only licked it a few times the next day. However, she does seem to be a nervous wreck since the sting. She shivers a lot. I'm not sure if it's because of the bee sting or because it's getting cooler at night. Still, the temperature difference is not that great inside our house. I guess it's from the trauma of getting stung. She's fine if her mind is on something else like a bone or when she get a treat. I'm glad that your dog made it to the vet's! I would have been out of my mind with worry if my little girl's behind swelled up! I know all about antihistamines and always keep some on hand, just in case.

Aww! Poor thing! Having her paw stung and having to walk on it must have been awful for her! My dog was stung on her, well, in a very personal spot. LOL The sting was right next to her, uh, where she goes pee pee. She's able to walk around just fine but still sits at an angle with the leg on the side where the sting is kind of straight out, holding that side up. She licks it occasionally but it's much better now than it was. I think it scared her more than anything. Of course, it hurt, but I really think she was more scared than she was hurt. I gave her a doggy Xanax I got from the vet for my other dog who is terrified of thunder. It calmed her right down. She was able to eat once she calmed down and her breathing was good so it was obvious that she's not allergic to bees. It was definitely a doggy day here today because my other dog got poop stuck in her behind (yeah, half-in, half-out ) so I stuck her in the bathtub and ran water over it until it popped out. Then, she got a bath and a haircut. I'm so glad I have a strong stomach.

Awwww poor Lilly!! That had to hurt!! Especially where she was stung!! OUCH!! Yeah, I've had a few dogs get stung by a bee. One snapped at the bee and got stung inside it's mouth and was so swollen that it could barely eat! Another was stung in the face and had this huge knot on and around the eye. I can't remember exactly who it was for we've had so many dogs and cats and so many events with them all but I do remember a few getting stung and it was so sad! Give Lilly some love for me!! Bless her heart!!

I live in an apartment and I don't keep pets. My father used to feed a particular stray dog. It was white dog. I don't know what breed it was. So my father used to feed it and was a bit close to it. It used to roam around our building quite often. One day it disappeared and was not to be seen for many days. After many days he returned to our locality but was shy to come near our house. The reason was it had fallen into a black paint or oil and was around 70% dark. Maybe it thought father would reject him since he was not good looking anymore.

Awww! The poor dog! I bet he was really frightened by that experience. Maybe someone else had thrown the oil or black paint on the dog to get him to go away and that made him afraid of all humans for awhile.

Thank you, Archie. She's much better now. Luckily, she did not have an allergic reaction. I'm thinking that she sat down on this bee, because of where she got stung. How embarrassing! But, she's been getting a lot more cuddling and treats since her sting so she's pretty happy. She was spoiled but now she's even more spoiled. She seems to think that she will get a treat whenever she wants one now. I'm going to have to "de-spoil" her, although I hate her looking at me with those begging eyes.

Hi, Letran. She came through it just fine. Luckily, she didn't have an allergic reaction. I was surprised when she got stung but, once I saw WHERE she got stung, I could understand it. She had apparently sat down on the bee. What a place to get stung, huh? I felt so badly for her yet there was very little I could do to make her feel better. I made sure she had lots of treats, though. That seemed to help. Of course, now she's even more spoiled rotten.

Aaw, the poor little thing, i hope she has recovered. Just last night, i had to get my husband, as there was a huge bee, or in fact a Hornet, sat on my computer room wall, and it occured to me, that it was in the same room as Sherbert my hampster, and would have been here all night. You cannot be too careful. My own dog, has had stick injury, whereas she ran for a stick, and then became very poorly, to the point, i had no idea what was wrong, so rushed her to the vet, and she had got some shrapnell of the stick, lodged in her chest. This can kill a dog, and she had to be operated on. The vet told us Never!! throw sticks, use balls. He had had a fatality just that week, with the same thing. This is just to warn everyone with dogs, that this can occur often, and does, so i was shocked, as sticks and dogs go together. I hope Lilly feels better now :-(
