Before, I believed that buying a computer is just a luxury, that was the time when I was still in high school. Now, I am convinced that it is a necessity because most of the things especially those related to schooling and work requires computer for a more efficient work. So, I just bought one and really find it very useful. Nowadays, what do you think a computer is? a necessity or a luxury?

The computer with these two factors do have a inter relation. The necessity most of the time is the luxury itself and these days well its been the case.So much of hype comes with the computers stating its use as much as comfortable and filled with goodies for luxurious purposes. There is the trend with the songs, the movies,an all of the same feature, the necessity has been upcoming with the demands.I prefer the elements both of them as variations come with the mood we are at,don't we.

For me, it's necessity. It is required to do my school work efficiently. The most important reason is that my school replaced the usage of books with notebook/laptop. So, i use them everyday as a necessity

I think both~~ I buy desktop for my work so it's necessity. But for me I think buying laptop is luxury more than necessity. I like the brand so I buy it.

The two factors have inter relation by the way, people go for computers because it has what they need for though it and well doesn't luxury go hand in hand with it.If the necessity is luxury as by songs, movies, entertainment, and many other factors regarding it.I prefer luxury with necessity ,as ,if I don't have a computer i would have to go and use someone else system or ask every time for their permission. The uses increases and one wants to solve them, that being their necessity. The luxury also has part of pride too, isn't.

I used to think of computers as a luxury item. I thought that only business people really had the need for computers. With all of the advances in modern technology, owning and using a computer becomes more of a necessity daily.

now a days i would say that it would be a necessity, cause as we move on to live in the modern world computers became part of our daily gadgets because of its uses specially if your working in an office, but there is a limitation to that as long as the PC's specifications are just enough for it's dedicated use, due to the reason that high end components of PC's are expensive but would be considered as over qualified for its uses, like for PCs that are dedicated for gaming which requires a components that has an excellent performance that would cost you much... =) I say that it would depend on your purpose why you have to own one.. =)

I won't take sides.. Its both, a necessity as well as luxury. People do work on their PCs. I too am doing programming on my computer. Then there's also play, I watch movies, listen to songs, play games and all. And then there's mylot too, which is both necessity as well as luxury... What say ???

Buying a computer is not a luxury for me as I am a IT Professional. My work revolves around it. There are many people I have seen who buy a computer for showing it to others. They enjoy to show their expensive computer. Computer is wonderful piece of machine and I am glad that its much a necessity for me than a luxury.

I think its a necessity nowadays.. One of the great factors why human beings dominate this world because of our ability to adapt and be flexible with the changes in our environment..everything changes, people even change... Our technology is advancing from time to time..Basically, I think computers today are becoming more cheap and are at a lower price than in the 1980's and 1990's.. Even children now can choose to have a laptop or computer at a very young age..

If the thing you are going to buy is needed by you and if you dont buy that it affects you then it is a need. other wise a luxory in my view But if we talk about today's scenario computer has become a need and cant be said as luxory. they are not very costly and very useful

It is a necessity for me, not a luxury. Nowadays, computers have become so cheap and are affordable. I even read somewhere that they are going to implement a project called a $100 laptop/child to increase the reach of technology amongst children in the developing world. Having a computer can certainly ease administrative work (accounting, making of letters, etc) not to mention the amount of information you can have access to if you have internet connection (for school/office work, online banking, shopping, etc.) When I was a student at the university, we did not have computers and had to run our theses on programs like Fortran and Cobol, which I did not completely understand.
