Help! My mom is addicted to Facebook!

What started as something to reconnect her with relatives has seemed to turn into an addiction for my mom. As I write this, it's 2:37am where I live and she's still awake. She's addicted to Facebook games, especially the farm-type ones. I mean, it's alright that she's over 50 and having fun with computers, and I'm glad that she's got something better to do than playing BINGO which costs money. The help I need isn't how to get her to stop playing these games. My brother just moved out and soon he'll be taking his computer with him. The said computer is what my mother uses for playing. So... she wants a new computer. I also need a desktop since mine broke a year and a half ago. On her part, she'll probably only be using the computer for facebook. On the other hand, I use the computer as a media center, and I could have up to 10-20 tabs open each on 2-3 windows if I'm really busy with something. Should I get her a good-enough-for-just-facebook cheap netbook or contribute to her budget and get a better desktop wherein I could set up a server or something and she could still use it while playing her facebook games? I don't really have the budget for what I really want and I'm not yet planning to get one soon, but since this is coming up, I still can't decide. And she's rushing me... Her budget is US$ 200-250, and I could add US$ 300-350 I guess... Specs would help too.

haha.. your mom`s really cool though... heheh.. why don`t you try encouraging her to join mylot. Aside from its very interactive and that she can really relate to adult discussion, she can earn money with it so wont have to argue with her on computer or electric billings (heehehe) but I see you love your mom though!

I've seriously considered that, however she's not that great with English or computers, so I'm thinking that I'll end up spending a LOT of time teaching her stuff. Just facebook alone took me weeks before she stopped bugging me to ask questions. I might ask my Dad though

Why don't you buy her a simple netbook like an Asus EEEPC 1000H? It costs around 300$ and your mother will be happy! :D

That's one of the things I'm considering, since I have an Acer Aspire One netbook as well. But my mother doesn't like it, saying that it's too small, and she can't see her whole farm in these games. It's crazy how she can be so picky with just some games. I'm still trying to convince her.

i am smiling here ... not because i am also addicted to facebook and the farm-type games but sometimes it also brings me to that time of the day when i am still wide awake, and ... i am her age! i am a member of different social networking sites and i had enjoyed chatting in the past months. but with my discovery of mylot and other money-making sites, i shifted my attention thereto. u can buy a good laptop with that budget. although i did not spend for my laptop, my sister who gave it to me says that she bought it at $239 only and it is brand new. i just wasn't able to get it immediately as she was looking for someone to handcarry it to the philippines. how about ebay?
