How often will you pay for a friend or family members vacation expenses?

When you plan a vacation or even a weekend outing and you invite friends or family members to come along. Are you the one paying for all expenses just to have someone along with you? Do they pay you back and how often do you cover the expenses?

When I went to a place where I needed somebody to tag along, I always pay for the trip. And I have also experienced going on a trip with somebody where I get to pay nothing. But if the trip was planned for a long time, we share in the expenses. Family vacations are mostly planned so we all share in the expenses. Weekend outings for family and relatives and or friends, the one who made the invite will mostly shoulder the food while the invitees shoulder the fare to the place.

I usually end up paying for my mom a vacation about once a year or so. It is usually considered a gift, so I don't expect her to pay it back. I don't know if that will be happening too much in the near future though, because she seems to be getting a little old to travel. I have also taken nieces on trips with me, as well as helping out on a trip with my sister and brother-in-law when we all went to see my nephew graduate from his basic training in the Marines. I think it is ok to pay just to have someone to go along with, like you say. Or to give a gift now and then to someone who wouldn't otherwise be able to travel!

wish I had the money to do so. I don't or I would. We don't even take trips.
