Is it time to breed German Shephard?

My best friend got a female German shephard. She is about 2 and a half year. So we were thinking what age is best for her to breed?

Hello asweetie, i think 2 and a half year of age is yet a bit too small for your german sheperd to start breeding, i send my dog german sheperd to breed when he was 4 and half year of age with the german shpered who was equally of his age something around 5.I think you should atleast wait for 1 more year and half before she goes breeding, and try to vaccine and give her balanced food so that she can gain good energy at her bones.

hi Archie,
thanks for the response and we been discussing it for some time now because the guy from who we buy our dog food for this dog has been telling us that it is ok for german Shephard to mate in second year and we have been quite pressurised by friends for her pups and everyone asking us when is she going to give pups. So i thought may be friends here can tell us if she is ready for it or not.

My vet said that German Shepherds could be bred from the 3rd heat on. And that a vet should be checking them because the GS have a hip problem.

Hi asweetie,
German shephard is a very wise animal and since it is one year old discusssion now so she must be now about four years old and i think it is right time for her to breed. They come in heat two to three times a year, usally ten days after their cycle. It is always better to check with her Vet before you mate her.
