When i was about to buy a laptop, i consulted some friends who technically know about computers. What they usually considered were the features such as the memory capacity of the computer and its processor...can anyone else add up what other features should a buyer consider before deciding what to buy?

When buying a PC one should consider space either from memory or hard drives. Because the larger you space is the better the system works. And also consider what OS should be install and would recommend Windows 7 because it was stable never bought PC with Vista installed on it it makes you crazy when problem are coming. And one last thing you should consider though this is not a feature of a PC but this very important I am talking about Customer Support from where you purchase your PC. because a good costumer support can save you lot of troubles.

Well basically is Windows 7 just look like Windows Vista but stable as Windows XP.Microsoft did a good job refining it's OS after the failure of Vista. It can run efficiently at 1gb of memory with no hangups and speed is perfect. I think they are releasing Windows 7 this October so it is just a couple of months from now.

Thanks for your reply. I would just like to know further what Windows 7 is, what are its features? How can you say that it is better over Vista? Please give me a preview on this because it may help me in making decisions. I agree with what you said in the last part. Customer support is indeed an important thing to consider because it will feel us more comfortable that we are not left whenever trouble comes in the products we are buying. This is applicable to all.

i say that you should know first what is its dedicated uses(like for example you plan to use it in gaming or just in an office/school works) for you to consider its components or the packages suggested by the shop by knowing its purpose you can be more practical and wise..=) the cost of Computers depends on its performance but it doesn't mean that older versions or released components can't be that efficient and functional they can be as functional and efficient as you want to but it would depend on where you use it, high end computers will cost you much..=) i hope this can help you decide ...=)

My Opinion: Features that should a buyer consider 1. Processor Speed 2. Size of Memory ram 3. Size of Data storage 4. Graphic Memory 5. Cell on battery provided 6. Weight 7. Warranty period of the hardware

I have some excellent advice. DONT BUY A DELL!!! Dell laptops are crap, they crash after a few years. Go for an acer, they're well worth it.

Well, the top things I'd consider are CPU, RAM and hard disk. Assuming it has a CD/DVD drive or a USB slot, that's all you need to get it to work, so obviously they're the core characteristics. Depending on what you may want to do with your laptop however you may also consider the graphical processor as not every laptop is meant for handling 3D processing applications like most recent games. If you use a 802.11n router, you may want to consider trying to find a laptop with that kind of wireless adapter too since it'd make use of the improved bandwidth as well. But beyond that there is not much else that should be a concern. Maybe you'd like to tell what you intend to do with this laptop?

It depends on what you need it for. If you're going to buy it for multimedia usage especially for gaming, you might consider better specification like faster processor, good graphic card, large hard disk capacity, and better RAM. For usage other than that, you might consider its processor speed, hard disk capacity, and RAM. If you're using windows vista, it is recommended to have at least 2 gb of RAM

so when you buy a computer you must think on specs in general such as there are the normal one as processor, ram, disk space, graphic card...that you must consider first btu afterthat you must also se for the optical drive, display resolution ,softwares added to your pc and so on..i think when you buy a computer you must consider many specs in this way you will buy that one really useful for you!!In many cases if you can,it is ok too if in this period you cna wai a bit more before buying your new pc also because i guess that from the last of this year and the begin of the new one there will be many news about pc and processors as well!!
