Am I not supposed to turn off a router? I noticed that each time I turn it off and turn on again, the computer is not able to connect to the internet. I need to configure the router again to be able to connect. I tried turning off the modem without turning off the router as well but connection was perfectly fine once I turned the modem on. But once I turn off the router, the problem arises. Is this normal?

I guess your ISP is giving you dynamic IP Address from your modem. This common problem that I have encountered with my profession as PC technician I always encounter such problem. I don't know what the reason behind this but I my guess (I may be wrong) is that when you turn on your modem it will register some sort of session ID to what devices are connected to it so if you turn your router while the modem is on it still assume you have the last session id.This was just a theory but what I do when this happen I turn off both devices the modem and router together and on again the modem first wait for a few seconds to boot up properly and turn the router. That's it hope this could help you.

Thank you for your reply. It's already repaired, or so I think. I'm going to do one last test, turn off for about 5minutes or so then turn it back on, to see if it still holds the saved settings. Anyway, I pressed the reset button and downloaded a firmware update and that seems to have solved the problem. Figured I wouldn't lose anything by pressing reset since the setting seemed to be screwed up in the first place lol..

What type of router do you have? You may have to change certain settings. I hope you know how to access the menu, otherwise refer to the manual that comes with the router. For example with the router I am using I had the WAN connection to 'connect automatically', and 'always on' There is no problem similar to what you have been experiencing.

You know, I don't turn my router and modem off, unless I'm going to be gone for over 24hrs. away from the computer! I just leave it on all the time! But then again, I don't have any trouble when I do turn it back on, it configures itself back!
