things that make you look foolish

now I know similar discussions to this have been done before but in this case I think it’s warranted and I’m following my own advice and combining several ideas in one discussion. anyway apologies to those that did them (including apologies to myself) and look out for the very good one that became highest rated discussion that day. disclaimer: this is not intended as a dig at anybody in particular or any group of people and I’m not saying that if you’ve done these things you are stupid. just that they make you look that way, when you do them. There are lots of things that people do in this section which do not have the effect you think they do and these include: senseless stereotyping – describing all the people you disagree as having sick minds, being turds, being racist etc etc - looks like your last braincell is off out somewhere. negative ratings (see discussion mentioned above) – it’s usually obvious who’s done it and your star will deservedly fall if you keep doing it without reason (I think) assuming that facts are demons – burbling on about something you clearly have no knowledge of does not advance your cause one bit. if you’re passionate about something then researching it a bit would help with coherency. beginning discussion but not bothering to write anything, links do not = discussions. makes you look lazy. and of course turning to your rude 8 year old niece for advice on what to say in discussions. when you get to this point you might as well just admit you’ve been defeated. please do these all you like as I need good laughs from time to time. might be worth reconsidering if you want to be taken seriously though.

What really drives me nuts are youtube links. If I wanted to spend my time watching videos on youtube...I would go to youtube. While I do agree that sometimes they're relevant to a discussion, for instance if the discussion focuses on an event and/or something that happened there, the video is an asset but to just post a video as a stand alone with little to no lead in...not a good idea. I never thought about the rude 8 year old niece! We don't have an 8 year old niece...but we do have a 12 year old in the family who has a pretty smart mouth. I'd ask her for advice but she's too mean!

oh yes the link discussions or 'discussions' drive me up the wall too. sometimes you never even get an idea what they are supposed to be about. isn't there a place in profiles where the people that post these non-discussions can add their daily selection of links for those that are interested?

"and of course turning to your rude 8 year old niece for advice on what to say in discussions. when you get to this point you might as well just admit you’ve been defeated." That's my favorite. I've been contemplating starting a discussion on the same topic more or less. I am continually amazed by the behavior of people who are passionate about their politics. Not only here in myLot, but out in the real world as well. I think it's great that people are well informed. And I don't have a problem with people being opinionated. I DO have a problem who are so quick to attack others simply because they DARE to have a different opinion and/or choose to think for themselves rather than follow the "designated crowd". The beauty of living in the United States is that we ARE allowed to think for ourselves and we ARE allowed to speak our minds. It's just a shame when people abuse that right and twist it into giving themselves permission to verbally abuse, belittle and find any excuse to insult eachother. Dang...if you are really THAT passionate about your CAUSE use all that passion to share the facts, but please, please hold the insults! Do they really think that will win people over to their way of thinking??

i don't think you can describe people that do this all the time (i can understand getting emotionally carried away occasionally) as thinking. it is "thinking" you'll find.

yeah their are many things which makes people look foolish....... last weak my college was having welcome party for 1st year students. and when the principal chairman and vice principal were called upon stage to give prices they were such activities like rubbing their head, folding their hands, keeping one hand in pocket, all such activities they were doing giving proof of lack of confidence and also foolish kind of look..........it makes me laugh

these are displacement activities - they must have been nervous. however this discussion is actually about the level of debate that goes on in the politics section (incredibly silly on occasion).

Sounds like racism to me.

Ah, I see you don't deny being a racist! The cat is out of the bag here; the moon is shot. The standard has been set and I will humbly abide. According to some prominent figures in pop culture, dissent is racism. And since you disagree with me at times, it must be that you're a racist. It's the type of logic political careers are made of. It's a working formula. Now, just repent for your racist ways and we can move on to the rest of the subject! Why is this so hard to understand? You're in good company. Everyone with a different viewpoint than mine is a racist. The white man will never get ahead at this rate.

2/10 fish. nice all purpose one that but some people manage to get the full 10/10. so i'm afraid i'm going to have to dismiss that as a feeble attempt. go and join the lamb in doing some work.
