I remember seeing commercials about this series but never tuned in to watch. Today I happen to be flipping through the court shows, brash entertainment news, strange public channels, and classic movies to find a gem amongst it all. I guess one would say it didn't have much competition, but after a couple of episodes of today's apparent marathon leading up to the season finale, I was hooked!! Its got everything, including reality tv fights! For instance, I learned how to purify water by creating enough voltage in water to produce ozone which purifies it!! It might sound far fetched, but that process comes in handy when you used up your five gallons of propane and you don't want to use all your wood boiling water! Its the end of the world and resources are scarce and the world outside the warehouse (dubbed colony) is crawling with religous fanatic gangs and gun-toting tradesmen who have no quams about stealing what you've managed to forage from an abandoned and delapidated hospital or the water you gathered from the concrete river running down the middle of what was downtown Los Angeles. Now, when exactly will I need to build a transmitter radio or build a swivel stand for solar panels, I'm not sure, but when put in the context of survival, one does tend to take mental note. And speaking of survival, what do you do when you have a week's supply of food and no resource for more and a mother and two kids and a handicapped man come by asking for food and water? The group votes on whether to send those people away starving or give what they can...which one day less of food to eat? What do you do when you go foraging and a team member goes missing? And when that food does finally run out...do you eat the resident rats or the goats you fondly named betsy and boopie? And where there's strife, there's inter-personal tension and moments of human kindness that one truly connects with. This show is great and I'm watching the finale with a big bowl of popcorn.

I've seen a few episodes, but I'm not very impressed with the design of the show. No matter how I reason it, I am lead to the conclusion that the producers (or whoever else is responsible) is trying to pull the wool over my eyes.
