Cigarettes Keep Going Up in Price

I am curious, nationwide and around the world too, how much cigarettes are costing people. I am referring to the price per pack. I live in California, and I smoke Marlboro, and per pack they run on average $5.40. Cartons cost about $46.00. The last time I went to buy a cartion, the price had gone up about $3 per carton from the last time I had purchased some. But that is nothing from the $1+ increase per pack last spring! So basically, a year ago, cigarettes were $4.15 a pack. This is insane!!

Smokers, drinkers and drivers are easy prey for governments. It was easy to make you feel guilty with smokes and drink but it is interesting to see how all this 'global warming' nonsense has now made us feel guilty driving or even travelling and so opened a new feeling of guilt to drive or catch a plane. This has really helped the government by increasing taxes on fuel and stopping spending money on the roads without complains from the gullable public. Cigs in the UK are about $8 for 20 and petrol about $7.50 a gallon and now the third most expensive country to visit. Ho hum!

I have heard that-the UK is very expensive, but what is the comparison to your average wages earned from employment? And yes, certain groups are tagetted because they can be, and it isn't fair, but such is life, right?

Yes, such is life! The rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the divide between the very rich and the poor gets bigger each year. I'm told the average wage is now over £20,000 a year. Well there must be loads of bankers out there on millions a year to offset me because I am retired and nowhere near £20k. But we cut our cloth to suit and live a quiet life and I suppose we enjoy the rare occasion more when we splash out a go somewhere special.

I am dreaming that someday the world would stop smoking altogether, I can dream right?

You certainly can dream. I am a smoker, and somedays I really dislike the taste and the smell, but bottom line it is an addiction, and one I have to continuously do throughout the day no matter what. At this point in time, I have not taken quitting very seriously, but I am starting a medication suggested by my doctor to help curb the cravings.

I am glad to hear the news that cigerattes keep going up in price, I disike smoking very much and I am happy that I was not used to smoking. I don't clearly understanding why everybody knows that somking is harmful to your healthy, but why still so many persons smoking again? i usually was choked by smoke especially in the closed enviroment. now my countried is trying to prevent the people to smoke in the public area, i totally agree with that.

You are lucky!! I am paying about 6.27 a pack here in Texas. Cartons are right at 50 and I hear they are raising prices again. I try to look for the 3 pack specials, but they are ridiculous. I have a friend who orders online from over seas and gets 3 cartons of Marlboro reds for 50 including shipping!

maybe it's becuase of the tax, it's a way to discourge people from buying smoke or the government is earning more on smoking that they raise taxes on them.

Well in my place, the cigrattes cost around 5.00 to 7.50 per pack depends on the brands they used. Some could get cheaper as they get them in carton straight from suppliers. I don't hate smokers, but I always advise them better not to smoke as smoking is really bad for health. What's more important is your life and your health. By having a good life, then only someone could live longer and enjoy the life better. Therefore, I kind of support the goverment to raise the price of ciggrates.

I'm paying $5.43 per pack for Marlboros here in Ohio. That's including tax. I was in Kentucky a couple weeks ago and got a carton for $40 + change. It makes me mad too that we smokers get taxed more & more and there are other things that can be just as bad and you don't see the taxes being added to them. I remember way back when they were getting close to being $1 per pack and everyone was complaining! lol
