Portabella Mushroom Caps

I ate a portabella mushroom sandwich once in a restaurant and it was one of the best sandwiches I'd ever had! I never thought I could be one to replace meet with a vegetable, but boy did I love that sandwich. Then again I have grown to LOVE mushrooms over the past few years. So my husband and I were at the grocery store last weekend and we decided to pick up a 2 pack of portabella mushroom caps. I want to cook them for a sandwich, I'm just not quite sure how to do so. Should I throw it in a frying pan like I would a hamburger? How will I know when it's done? I'd love to hear suggestions from those of you who have made them before!!
