Have you been given a Nickname from spouse or parents?

nickname - dog on bed with a saying about nickname

I was sitting around this morning drinking coffee and watching TV when my husband came in the room. He addressed me as "mom". He had started calling me that a few months after we was married. Before then he called me "babygirl". So it got me to thinking. I wonder how many others out there have a pet name that their mate calls them. What is your nickname that has been given to you?

Hello my wonderful friend I am doing great my friend,, as for the computer yes she is still under the weather I will tell her you asked about here o.k. I look forward to hearing this my friend, this is a pet peeve more than anything, mom/dad are two words/names people take for granted I hear this alot and I have stopped people from calling me mom, especially when the person is older I say did I give birth to you, they say no lol I could be bad sometimes, I just feel mom/dad should be reserved for the people that gave us life never to be altered or shared with others, as I said pet peeve no worries. Duck, I can't imagine my friend, you were a bad girl so lol just tell me.

Hi rosepedal, well my man calls me sweetie or love. I know he has my name in his phone rather than sweetie. It's just so him though that when he phones and my son answers he'll tell me sweeties on the phone. I was setting off on Saturday up to his place and I called first to check the weather as there's a large mountain inbetween us so different weather and was stunned when he picked up the phone with a 'Hi Babes'. I call him by a shortened English version of his rather unusual name.

My real name is long. My mother shortened it to Beth but it is nowhere near my real name. It was a matter of convenience for her because it is shorter, easier to remember (probably). However, when she's mad at me, she calls out to me by my real name. In fact, it is already a clue to me whenever I hear my full name. I'm in trouble...

LOL Yeah I know what you saying about the real name being called out. It was that way when I was younger and my Dad would call out my full name. I knew it meant trouble too. Heck now if my hubby calls out my name then I know that Im in trouble again...LOL..Thanks for sharing...

mu hubby doesnt call me by any name...he just calls...'kyo'(its hindi word...which can be considered similar to 'hey' in english)...as in India till today in many families...as a sign of respect to the elders living in the family...couples dont call each other by name...so its just something to start with....some people start calling their wives, with their children's name..but i wonder what they might be calling each other before they had children ..but its still good...funny but ...still going on here in India...

Yes I do have various pet names given to me from people I am close to. My parents call me a shortened version of my real name, and it is quite sweet. I like the fact that no one else calls me by the pet name that they have for me. My partner has various pet names for me, all of which I would rather not reveal on here! They are all very personal and private and I'd rather keep them that way. I think pet names are a wonderful thing.

Hi rosepedal! Well my husband has not given me a nickname, but my mom had a nickame for all four of her children. Mine was "butterbean". To this day there are times when she will still call me by my nickname, and it shocks my children . They always ask who is that, and i have to tell them that it is their mom. I always get a good laugh from the looks on their faces.

My greatgrandmother who passed away one year ago gave me a nickname. It's in my language though I don't know how to spell it. It's a nice name though. It relates to me and my auntie she's the oldest in the entire family. I really was close to my grandmother. She was a person to keep me smiling. I miss her so much. :(

hi rose. when we first met and started living-together, my wife calls me "darling". and when we are about two years, if i can remember well, i started calling her "honey". since then and until now, we call each other "honey". but there are times we call one another as "mama" and "daddy" so our kids will get used to call us by those names.

Hello, in my country we are given nicknames such as lotlot, mai mai, jok jok, and any other repeated short names. Mine is mac mac. I really like nicknames, because it is very funny and hilarious just listening to it. Like mac mac, it came from my name. I believe that nick names are traditional and even our elderly have nicknames. My spouse also gave me a nickname "ga" this came from the word "pangga" meaning beloved. In my country we also have nick names like pao, which came from the word "opao" meaning bold, if that person has no hair, his nickname is most likely that. This is a very wonderful discussion. Have a nice day.
