Full term baby dies because hospital refuses medical treatment....?!

I wanted to mention this because maybe somebody somewhere who sees it will have an idea about why or how this could happen! One of the moms from my daughter's class recently LOST a full-term baby because the hospital she went to refused to give the baby medical treatment. Now I understand if a baby is stillborn a hospital may not do anything heroic because the baby was not alive during/upon birth, but WHY would a hospital NOT administer medical treatment to a full term baby, born ALIVE, but experiencing problems? Apparently the baby lived for FORTY FIVE MINUTES!!! If they had administered medical treatment to the baby, it would NOT HAVE DIED!!! The mom's ob doctor even told the hospital staff they needed to do something to save the baby!! This makes absolutely no sense at all. Please, if you have ANY information as to why something like this would happen, I need to know. Full term babies are ALWAYS cared for, I thought. MOST preemies are cared for immediately and given medical treatment so they can survive and grow! I myself was a preemie and I'm sure if I had not had medical treatment immediately, I might have died. A little more information - no cause of death was given! At this point in time, it seems like the hospital is refusing or hasn't done an autopsy. In my unprofessional opinion, it seems like the cause of death would be medical negligence!! What in the world would pre-empt a HOSPITAL with a NICU and a world class birth/nursery area from caring for a newborn?? I would be suing. Not ONLY suing but whatever else I could do to make an impact and make them pay for killing my baby. If people who are certified to perform medical procedures do not help someone and they could, I believe they get in trouble for it. This would definitely fall inside that guideline! Don't you think??!

First off, this story makes me absolutely sick. The pain that the poor baby's mother is going through is inexplicable. I really wish there was something that could be done so that the family could go back in time and have been able enjoy the pleasure of a new baby and not the grief of having to bury their own child. Unfortunately, there is no nothing that can be done to right the wrong of the hospital. However, the family should go a see a lawyer sooner rather than later in order to be able to file malpractice against the hospital and the doctors. It won't bring their baby back, but perhaps they would be able to find peace of mind in knowing that something similar won't happen to someone else's baby.

That's f*cked up! My son was a preemie, NICU saved his life and now he's a big happy healthy two year old. Where did this happen? If it happened to me I'd probably be in prison for what I'd do to those people who did that to the innocent baby. I am very sorry for what happened to your friend, it is beyond my understanding how such a thing could happen.

Ohhhh.... well, I wasn't going to mention the hospital but since it's near me and it is praised as a great medical institution, here ya go - it was Loma Linda! I had never heard anything but good things about this hospital! Now I don't want ANY of my friends to have their babies there! I would NEVER have a baby there, not after hearing about this! I am still beside myself about this. First do no harm?! What is this now, doctors think they can just not HELP people?

Hey mommyboo~ This story just seems like it makes no sense whatsoever. Why would a Hospital with a NICU not do anything to try to save a full term baby? That makes no sense! Something isn't right there! They have bought themselves a serious lawsuit, negative publicity and who knows what else! Why would doctors and nurses just stand by and let a baby die? Even a premie is given full medical treatment immediately! This story is missing some pieces! If it is true then this Hospital will be facing so much trouble! Why would they let a full term baby die? I am not a medical professionl, nor a legal professional but have worked in both fields and have worked for medical malpractice attorneys and can say this hospital is in deep sh1t!

Only God could forgive them for their sins - and then they would have to repent first. I am sorry. Sometimes I read a post that so upsets and disgusts me that I cannot respond properly. I feel the pain for the mother.

I can not believe how these people can sleep after not helping the newborn baby. It is a hospital they should have the equipment to help save the baby life. The family should sue the hospital and any person who could of help but did not. The staff at the hospital that just stood around should lose their license to practice medicine and some jail time would be very nice.
