I know so many people that by caned spaghetti sauce then spend lots of time and effort doctoring it up. I have one friend that spends more time and effort doctoring it up that i do making it from scratch. Its really not that hard and you can get it just the way you like it.

hi Louis I don't used canned sauce very often mostly I use jar sauce like Prego or Ragu I don't doctor it up I just use it as it is no need to put anything else in it I just add a little bit of extra things to the meat that I cook to put in the sauce its quicker that way for me making my own sauce is not something I want to do although I do make some things from scratch like I make my own bread, potatoe salad, french fries,ect.. but for spaghetti sauce I like a quick fix LOL

You have a pretty good point. I tend to add a few spices to my canned speghetti sauce. I guess it adds a feeling of doing something. Almost makes you think you actually did make it from scratch. I normally add onions, green peppers, and hamburger meat to the speghetti sauce. I like to add the spices since the onions, peppers, and meat kind of dilute the sauce. Thats my excuse at least, and I am going to stick to it.

This one made me smile. You are talking directly to me. I am queen of the pre-made and "add my own special touch" stuff. I had to think about this. I can't say it's cleaner, because there is still a lot of dicing and chopping and saute-ing and simmering. Basically, I have to say we have been sold a bunch of hype. You are absolutely right. It is just as easy from scratch. Come to think of it, I am adding a jar of sauce to the scratch. Mama Mia!!! LOL.

hi louis488 yes but a lot of people work and do not have that extra time, besides now days bottled spaghetti sauce is not that expensive and putting your own touches on it is great as far as I am concerned. I buy Barelli spaghetti plus that contains extra protein and is great for us diabetics and the barelli sauces are fantastic, cheaper than making your own and have all the same ingredients I would use too. I do not buy el cheap canned spaghetti sauce as that is garbage, mine comes in glass and it is not garbage at all,its delicious.to get thick rich sauce yes it takes hours and not many of us have that kind of time.

My family recipe for making spaghet sauce makes use of canned plain tomato sauce and tomato paste, which by themselves would be bland. By adding in garlic, onions, oregano, hot sausage (to spice it up), and other spices, you get spaghetti sauce. Plus you can add meatballs to the sauce and cook them in it. You don't get meatballs an sausage in canned sauce.
