Septum Piercing?

Have you ever had or know someone that's gotten a septum piercing? I've been thinking about getting a septum (the nose piercing that's in the middle) piercing recently, but I have a lot of questions. How much does it typically cost? does that price include the ring and after care stuff? And how is the pain on a scale of 1-10, 10 being most painful? How long does it take to heal? What are the typical guages of the piercing?

My husband has it,and he said the lip piercing hurt lot more, thing is gets tricky to blow your nose, but what we do to heal it is to use sea salt soaks, well he gets clean paper towel soaked and sticks it in his nose for a bit, removes everything there! that is the best aftercare I can think of,the body is wise, the cost was like 20 dollars,in a beach's downtown parlor, very nice one, price does include ring, since some piercers use different stuff some might add sprays, but really the salty water does help, keep in mind 1/4 tablespoon each 8 ozs of water. how long does it take to heal... I am thinking 2 months, and gagues are 12 I think. good luck with it,just beware people say something about it being smelly..."septum funk" didn't happen to my husband tho!

I had it done, but took it out because i didnt think it was for me. It costs anywhere from 30-50 bucks. Sometimes it included the aftercare, and sometimes it doesnt. The ring should come in with that price, if you get it done professionally. pain is ok...not bad at all. id say 4, its not the most painful piercing i have gotten, which is good. it takes pretty quick healing, but the tip of your nose will be painful for a few days, which is typical. but i would recommend going to walmart and getting some BACTINE. its the MOST amazing aftercare stuff, your piercing will heal in half the time! and it has lydocaine in it so it numbs the piercing. i love it! typical gauge starts off with a 16 or 14 but most people stretch it. either way hope this info helped!

I have not had it done, but a friend of mine did. She paid $45 about 2 years ago. I am sure the going rate really varies on who you go to. I think she got the 14 gauge(which I think is the size they use for belly buttons). She said it was just pressure, I have had other people tell me that the cartilage piercings in their ears hurt a lot worse. I'd visit a few tattoo parlors, talk to the piercer, get a few different prices and find out what that price includes before doing anything.

close up nose - not fond of my nose
I have always wanted to get my septum peirced, but unfortunately it conflicts with my insecurities of the size of my nose. Oh, I'm sure I've grown into it now, but as a kid I was known as Gonzo and would prefer not to have any attention drawn to it. As for the pain, it's like getting a tattoo or having a labor pain. It varies from person to person. I have a high tolerence for pain. My first tattoo tickled, and all 6 of my labors (yes I said 6) just felt like a menstrual cramp times 10. So, I suggest you find someone with the same tolerence as you who has possibly had it done or something similar. Also, don't hesitate to stop by or call your local tattoo & piercing shop. And I'm pretty sure the price, like everything else depends on where you are geographically. Good luck with that though. Take a pic so we can see.
