Dear Friends, We are facing frequent power failures here, on some days the duration usually lasts from 15 minutes to several hours. Last night the power failed from 11:58 pm while i was doing responses to and i fell asleep waiting for the power to be restored Summer is still here and at times, in the afternoon, there is some symptom of rain, the wind speed increases, but the amazing fact is that the power goes off almost instantly even before a candle is blown off. There are announcements that by 2010 there will be more brownouts due to the over population and which the transmission lines of the electric company's even if they add, still is not sufficient and could not cope. This is most irritating when you are surfing the net. I feel the mood goes off. Friends, is this also a common feature at your place, do not you feel irritated, please discuss. Do you have this problem? ann

I know most would see the bad side of things but I actually appreciate the power outages. I have opened a discussion about such and found many good things when we're out of power. Particularly: 1. People would stop staying in their rooms, instead they'd go out to talk and bond with friends, relatives, most especially family. 2. People start cleaning up, going around the house to see what could be done while the power is out. I tend to water plants, clean spaces, etc. 3. The end of internet addiction and television addiction. 4. In the daytime, we tend to appreciate the flowers and the plants. Do reading, and just going out to greet neighbors. 5. Relationship bonding.

Hehehe.. That has also happened. What I usually do is to take a long bath or better, dip myself in cool water. Then go to bed. Aahhhh.. Refreshing!

dear laydee, i agree that for every bad, there is always good thing. but i guess it has to be the timing. if the electricity is off during the day, one can always do what you said. but if it happens in the night, say 9 or 10pm and the weather is warm, things will be very different and we go back to being irritated and annoyed because of the heat and the mosquitoes (for those who are not used to mosquito nets). see this example, am about to rest but with little children already sleeping, i had to do with the manual fan so that they stay asleep and that's tiresome. now you will agree, that it is irritating. thank you for the response. ann

I sympathsize with you here, tigeraunt. When I was in Thailand power cuts were a major problem, and wound usually happen when you're in the middle od something, and haven't saved, as we should. Manila used to have brown outs when I was there, most inconvenient, but there was no internet in those days. Oower dropouts are very rare in Australia. Good luck. Mike.

hi mike, information says that it will be worse next year. manila is not so lucky as we are. they are most of the time hit by typhoons so they get floods, we dont. it is very inconvenient without power. we have been so dependent on it. happy mylotting. ann

Some years are worse than others, but it can be very irritating when it's very hot or cold, it can also become dangerous for those who have no way to get warm when its very cold or cool when it's hot.

Powercuts are really annoying. I cant stay without fan in the heat of summer. Whenever there is a powercut, I feel as if I have landed up in a village.

yes, we have this power outages in our place, too. but they are not as frequent as they were happening in the past. it is depressing and irritating, right. i feel irritated by the warmth of the place especially if it is daytime and sun's scorching heat is felt. if it happens at nighttime, we light candles and use fans. if the power outage lasts long and we are sleepy, we take a bath to cool ourselves. but generally, power outages here only last for an hour, the most.

ya it is a severe problem here in our country. We can't study without light. Even every thing is transferred on electricity, so we can't live a single second without electricity. The modern age is age of communication, and we can not communicate without electricity. Our cell phone can communicate, but Internet connects us with rest of world. Finally, Power Failure is Really Depressing and Irritating!

hi abidmian, we sure are very dependent on electricity now hence it is difficult to do it the natural way.. with just the light from the sun. i wish to have a solar panel but it is very very expensive. anyways, someday i wish the rest of the world will have at a much cheaper price. thank you for your response. ann
