Here in Detroit, we have the Sunday paper which you either get the Detroit News or Free Press.... today we got the free press and the headlines on the front page is "Home Swede Home". A reference to our Detroit Red Wings, We have 7 sweden players on our team this year...back in the 90s we had the Russian 5... its always something exciting for those of us here in "Hockeytown" Detroit, Mi. The official NHL season starts this week, and I was wondering how many are getting ready for the hockey season to start?? I myself love a good hockey game and cant wait to see a game or two--I love watching them on tv... how about you?

I was ready since the day after Pittsburgh hoisted the cup. I've waited all summer for this moment. I don't care much for any of the teams that play tonight but there is a huge bash at my play tonight for the simple fact that hockey is officially back!

Favourite player = Vincent Lecavalier and I became pretty decent friends with Stamkos during his junior years so by default I am a Lightning fan. Should be an exciting year for them. With the improvements on D and the firepower upfront (Lecavalier, St. Louis, Tanguay, Stamkos) they should be a much improved team from last year. As long as Smith can stay healthy (which he couldn't last year) they should be competing for one of those last playoff spots. Not sure if they'll get in but they'll be in the thick of it until the end!

the Lightning huh? ... not bad, especially since the owner of the Detroit Pistons owned them too .. at least for a time, not sure if that is still the case. favorite player... STEVE YZERMAN... miss seeing him on the ice.. love that man on the ice!!! although I do think that Lidstrom is taking his place well, just to me there was always something about Stevie Y. oh and a little fact... Scotty Bowman was like the best coach ever --and we share the same BDay!! LOL have a great day!!

I see you are from Canada and that you have answered quite a few posts regarding hockey...obviously an avid hockey fan no doubt... but I didnt see where you had stated what team you do route for if not for the Maple leafs?? Being from Detroit, there is no other team out there that compares for me... but then I am biased.. so who is your fav team ?? I like the way you answered alot of the posts seeing you have followed it and a couple yrs ago I would have been answering just the same as you(giving out stats of who and what teams the players where from).. however the last few yrs I have become a mom and after the shut out it was harder for me to get back into hockey but I am looking forward to it this year!! thanks for the response and have a great night!!

You can't beat watching the game in person. You can see the play develops a lot better instead of the camera view. The only thing good about the TV is the instant replay.

The Canucks have 4 Swedes including the Sedin twins, Alex Edler and probably someone any Detroit fan would be familiar with Mikael Samuelsson. He should have a great year as he'll be a top 6 forward in Vancouver unlike in Detroit where he was on the third line. Should be a great season. Can't wait.

ahhh Samuelsson, yes I know of the name!! I am looking forward to this year, the past couple years have been hard for me to follow because my kids are so young but this year my daughter will be 2 and my son is 6, so I plan to get in a few more games and follow the season alot closer than I have lately. I use to get to the Joe and see a few games in person, and we use to go to the sports bars and follow the games weekly... boy kids change your life!! but for the good!! I cant wait for the season to start too.... Go Wings!! hahahahahaha. thanks for the response and have a great night!

Yes, the Russians used to dominated the sport of hockey, it's getting more multi-national now.
