Modern english is described as a global lingua franca. Why do we have to use this language instead of our own dialects in terms of education, business, and other social areas of our life. We communicate in this language even if we have a hard time to master its regimens. Other countries such as Japan and China stick to their own national language without to much emphasis in learning english. Koreans are learning to use the english language as their secondary language. Is English better than other languages? Your thoughts about this.. Happy mylotting!!

English is not better than any other languages, it's just that its becoming more and more the lingua franca of the world so if one wishes to communicate with the rest of the world, it would be wise to at least have a working knowledge of it, it doesn't hurt though. We can opt to just stick to our own native language and forget about English but in so doing, misses a lot.

Thanks Manong.. European indviduals stick to their native tongue and you can see these in the markings of their streets, signs, and notices in their public places without a hint of English terms or words. But still, these people can still communicate with tourist and visitors from other countries. In my country, everyone wants to be good in English so that they will be respected by their peers and other people. Does language determine our social status? Anyway, this is just my own observation. Thanks Manong.. Happy lotting!!

I think that is because english speaking countries like the Great Britain had so many colonies in the past. And the people in those colonies naturally learns how to speak english. And english speaking countries like the USA are so rich that almost all country want to do Business with them, then learning english become popular all over the world.

Nowadays English is the Latin. English is relativly easy to learn and besides it's the tongue of the US superpower and UK a former superpower. Maybe tomorrow is Chinese or some other language. That's why one should learn languages. Try out Terra Linguas http://www.terralinguas.com It's free and you can learn any language you want. According to the Grimm brothers there is already a universal language. I let you found out. :)
