I think it's pretty interesting to have hedgehog as a pet, but I myself also have many doubt about it, because I don't know is there any pet shop on my neighborhood selling hedgehog food. I have many kind of pet, fish, rabbit, turtle, and hamster. From all that pet the easiest one to take care is turtle. I just give my turtle some fish food and what I like the most from turtle is its highly adaptation skill, it will never ill and can live without food for days. Awesome!

Yeah sure turtle is boring, but easiest to taken care of . If talk about activity of the pet I like hamster, it's funny and never stop walking around, running or jumping, but hamster is nocturnal animal, so its sleep cycle different from us, when we are usually sleep, hamster wake and active.

If I am not mistaken, hedgehogs are protected species, which means you are not allowed to keep it in captivity without a licence. Hedgehogs can be smelly and you have to be careful with their spines. They are somewhat poisonous and its their defence against other animals. Maybe you should check out the internet for more information on hedgehogs before keeping one. If indeed its a protected animal, then when a neighbour reports that you kept an endangered species, you can be fined up to Rm10,000 or jail. check carefully before keeping one.

It depends on countries and the kind of species. I think wild hedgies are all protected in Europe but it is legal to buy hedgehogs in animal shops. Those are the African pigmy hedgehogs. They are so called domesticated, so hopefully they haven't got ticks, fleas, worms and they are not infected by viruses. The wild hedgies can be seriously dangerous for people, so it's not a good idea to touch them. They can been infected by lungworms, they can bite and they don't wash their teeth :) and so on. Anyway they are very important (and noisy) insectivores and they can be really cute in the wild. They like gardens with lots of bushes and they can be very tame. We have two of them in the garden and like them very much. Their favorite food was the larvae of the miller and the mealworms of course.
