I have to spend two years in Australia, and the cold weather here is killing me. The erthritis in my ankle gives me pain daily, sometimes severe. I can't wait until my two years are up and I can return to Thailand, where I swim nearly twelve months a year. Swimming is great for my painful bones, and I am looking forward to getting back to hot weather. Do you like warm/hot weather where you can swim all year?

I wouldn't say that it is the best, since I have swim all summer before and not really gotten into any kind of shape. But I do agree it is good on the joints! If I'm injured from running, I'll go swimming instead. But to burn more calories and actually get in better shape, I'll go running generally.

Hi pigglies, swimming is poddibily the best exercise you can get, and it doesn't jar your joints. That's why I like it so much. Thanks for your response.

I love to swim when its hot. Our country is similar to Thailand in so far as the weather is concerned. The beaches are also great. Most of the people usually go to the beach during weekends to dip and swim. I do love to swim and most of the time, my favorite outing with my family or friends is the beach. Swimming is a great exercise, it will do wonders for your health.

Hi jpso, I agree with you. Swimming is a great way to exercise, and have fun, without even realizing you are exercising. I also like to swim laps, in a pool, for additional exercise. Thank you for responding.

Hi my friend Mipen. I would so love it if I lived in a hot country and was able to swim all year round. I live in a cool country and due to dangerous mud, swimming isn't possible at anytime of the year at my local beaches. A few people have drowned due to the challenging tidal rip. At suitable beaches swimming is possible from June to August in the summer time. The air temperature can get warm but the sea temperature is cold. I am sorry that you have pain in your ankle. I can imagine it would be lovely to live in Cairns but in Melbourne and Sydney it can get cool. In North Queensland it is tropical. I know you can't wait to go back to Thailand. Good luck. Max

Thanks max, I suppose I could move to Cairns, but I don't know anyone there, and house sits there are few. The weather here is just so cold, even though the first month of spring has slmost passed. We are moving a little north for our next sit, so the weather will be warmer then. Thanks for your response, and take care. Mike.

I also like swimming, in pool, river or lake. as you said, swimming can cure some pain of body, so it is a heathy sport for give help to chronic disease. Especially for old person.
most of us swim in summber, in cold days, some people take winter-swimming to train themselves, i have some experience before. But in water around zero temperature, we only could swim for a few minutes. So constant temprature swimming pool is a better choice for us.

Hi Milesxiao, and welcome. You're right about swimming being good for your health. I'm 69 and since I moved to Australia, I have aching ankles and knees, which I didn't have so much when I swam daily. Thanks for your response.

I like to swim, in the summer. Feeling very comfortable in the water. Even in the cold winter, I would go swimming under the guidance of professional coaches, winter swimming, and this also benefits our health. I love to swim.

Swimming is one of the best things we can do to stay healthy, and since moving to Australia, my ankles and knees ache everyday. This wasn't the case when I swam everyday. Thanks for your response, wangjihong.

That would be terrific! We have a pool at our house but it is not heated and I barely use it because it has to have been 40 degrees for at least a week before I’ll jump in! It would be lovely to be able to swim all year round; it is the best exercise you can do with the least chance of injury. It sounds like you’re doing time here mipen, you poor thing...I hope you’re back in Thailand enjoying the lovely warm weather before you know it!

Thanks paula, I've only started, but Ventrelink can't even give me a confirmed start date. When I started on the pension in Dec. 2008, or when I returned to Australia in June 2009, after returning to Thailand for three months. I fear it'll be June this year. I'm counting the sleeps already. Thanks for your input, and take care. Mike.

hi mipen, i do not like cold winter either. i hate it. i have to wear so much in winter, but i still feel cold. but swimming, i like it. it can shape our body and relax ourselves. and we all know that a good swimmer is also in a good shape. unlucky, i do not know how to swim, i have only swimmed for twice, i am afraid of being in deep water.

Hello buping, I don't know whether you would want to swim too much in China, but on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand, you can for at least ten months a year. Swimming is an excellent way to keep fit, and relax your mind. I'm looking forward to returning to Thailand, when I finish in Australia.
