I just nearly Smashed into the Plate Glass Window.

I had to collect a maintenance cheque from an owner's business place a short while ago. Cars were parked in front of the business place so I headed for the back of the building complex. Well, I had to drive down a steepish little side road to park and at the end of the road was an office with a plate glass window. I pressed on the brakes as I went down the hill but I did not stop too well. In fact, I only stopped literally inches from the plate glass window. My brakes went soft. You should have seen everyone screaming and running. I really felt so sorry for them. One young lady just went in circles as she was screaming. I did not feel good about this at all. The owner came out and fortunately I know him quite well. And as I was phoning my son he turned the car around for me and tested the brakes and they are a bit soft and I hadn't noticed. So my son came and took my vehicle to get the brakes fixed. I just had to tell you. Have you experienced a near accident at all?

This would be Scary for sure. When you hear of things happening like this it makes you wonder what the real Story is for sure. But glad to hear that you were able to get your car stopped in time and no one was injured. Glad that someone was able to check out your Brakes on your car and get them fixed before something does happen to someone.

You're very lucky that you didn't have a car crash. If that happened to me I would laugh out of relief after stopping my car. I've experienced lots of accidents in my life, and there was even one where I almost lost my thumb. But even so, I consider myself lucky because I still have both thumbs today.

I'm glad you're ok. Scary... My most recent near accident was when I was taking Cary up to Cameron Park for summer school and when I stopped at the stop sign just before the school, the car behind me didn't see that I had stopped and almost rammed into me. I screamed and the kids were all shocked at that. They hadn't even noticed the screeching brakes behind us1

I have had whip lash before and it is not nice. It can last for years. Your children must have been so scared as they expect their parents not to be afraid of anything. It is now that I feel a little shaken and had to tell my friends what had happened. I must get back to work but will have a cup of tea first.

They were startled, but not really scared. Have two, and maybe a cookie!

I was in a bad accident back in 2001 where I got whip lash. I'm still bothered by it, I have terrible knots in my neck that never want to go away! When I get tired or overworked my neck gets so sore I can barely hold it up anymore. I also get really nasty headaches... not sure if the knots cause the headache or if the headache amplifies the knots, but it's pure torture!! Thankfully I was alone in the car when that accident happened.

Hey cythiann! OMG! I am just ok that you are alright! That is so scarry! And yes I have been in car accidents and near misses! Once my Mom and I were on the main street to our house and there was a few snow banks luckily on the side of the road! We kept hearing noises in the car but didn't know what they were! My stupid azz Father you was sick had fixed the tire and didn't have the full strength to tighten the lug nuts enough and the tire came off in the middle of this really busy street! The car spun around a few times, luckily the traffic stopped! The car hit a snow bank or we would have landed upside down! I got out of the car and went to retrieve the tire in the middle of the traffic! I was in shock and could have been killed! I had no idea how heavy a tire was! Luckily again, we were right near our house and right by the gas station where we get our car fixed! Holy crap! I will never forget that one!

YOur one was far worse than mine. You must have been so scared and could have3 been seriuously hurt. I have nevr driven in snow but was with my daughter in NC last February and it began to snow and the car skidded a bit. I was nervouse after it happened not whilst it happened. Luckily I remembered to pull up the hand brake. It could have been a lot worse

Awww God! It was close. Good that you haven't been hurt. Thankfully I haven't been so close, I always check my car's condition before taking it out. But things can happen. If it would have happened here at my city people would have been enraged and maybe would have been involved in a verbal lash. Things get pretty harsh here. Take care dear friend!

Phew!, that sounded like a close one! I have made my husband aware of a stopped car in front us, when i saw he was distracted, ro we would have hit it and i know how scary it feels. I hope your brakes are sorted now, and thank god you were not hurt.

somehow I have just managed to delete my response to you. No apologies are necessary at all. I took my eldest so to see him and we had a meeting about 2 years ago and he apologized and said that he would speed things up! Well - it hasn't happened. I go through life never hurting people and I still feel so badly that I did this. My children could not believe it. I feel awful but I have to fight for what is mine and think of my children. One of my sons has learning disabilities and will always need help from his siblings. I am doing this so my children will not be left in a mess like I was left in a mess.

Sorry Forrest I posted the wrong response to the wrong discussion. I am just so fragmented still. Everything is happening to me and I am not coping too well. Brakes are working well and everything is good with car. Many thanks for responding

I did have a close call once like that....I had this car with something on it called a clutch plate....well I was going onto a very busy interstate one friday about rush hour and my brakes didn't work....I had it in several times and no one could figure it out until I went to visit my dad and our hometown mechanic found the problem....it was very scary....my son was sitting next to me and put the car in second and that slowed us enough not to crash into anyone!

Quick thinking on the part of your son. I actually had the presence of mind to pull up the hand brake and that helped

I came close last winter I was comming down the hill twards my dd's school and as I tried to slow down and start turning I about slid into someones front yard thankfully I didn't & I didn't hit anyone either but those lil things are scarey. I"m glad your DS came to check your brakes, you may not of been so lucky next time.

Yes it really was close but I had not noticed that the brakes were soft before it happened. Your accident sounds much worse though and i am glad that you were not hurt. I was cool whilst it was happening and even had the thought to use the hand brake but went to pieces afterwards.

Oh I am sure that was a really scary situation for you and all around, but I'm glad you knew the owner of the business really well and he didn't seem to be upset about the near miss and even helped you by turning the car around and testing the brakes. I hope you can get those fixed soon. I'm studying to get my permit, I never did when I could and I had to wait for medical evaluation to go through, so now I can and all I need to do is study! I've been studying but I need to continue too... Hopefully I won't have any accidents in a car! Hope your doing well!

It is definitely a good trait to be able to keep cool during a situation but afterwards kind of start falling apart... not that that's good either, but well you know what I mean. The good thing is your alright... and no one else is hurt.

No, I have known him for many years. He was more concerned over me. I am cool during a crisis. It is afterwards that I feel the strain and begin to shake. I am shaking now.

My Gosh! You never cease to amaze with the predicaments you get yourself into! I have been in plenty of near accidents, and a few real accidents as well. My brakes are pretty much always soft, as car repairs are usually last on our list of expenses, until it gets to a point where it cannot be put off any longer. I'm still sort of chuckling over the thought of a woman running in circles as a car comes careening towards her!

I don't do it on purpose.Honestly. it just happens and yes, I was laughing at th memory myself last night. There was no sidewalk so I went right up to the window - literally inches away!

Be glad that you almost smashed into the window and didn't have an accident and kill someone. What if the brakes failed on the road as you were approaching a pedestrian?

Cat, I was so lucky,. there was no sidewalk and the office was in a semi basement. So the level of the window was at the level of my tyres. The people were so scared. Thank God no one was hurt.
