Who has adopted a cat from a shelter?

So, how many MyLotters have adopted their cats from an animal shelter? I've adopted 3 in my life so far, but now we've been catless for a few months and I'm ready to get another. We've already got a wonderful cat picked out at our local shelter - a large, black, long haired beauty named Lover Boy. He reminds me a lot of our cat that recently died, Spirit, but he's a little different in some ways. He's a lot more loving. I can't wait to get him. We're living with some cat allergic roommates, so we've got to wait until we have our own house. However, Lover Boy is 3 years old, so it's not very likely he's going to get adopted quickly, especially since this shelter is always full of cute and tiny kittens.

I have gotten one from the shelter, but I am a cat rescue now, and hope to find good homes, like yours, for about 8 of my cats

Wow, I hope you can find homes for all of them. The most I've ever had was three at one time, but my family used to take care of a feral colony on our land that had almost 50 cats at it's peak. Thankfully they slowly became less as we got them fixed and adopted the healthy, friendly ones out.

Thanks, I think your family did a good thing and I have the 3 feral kittens to fix and then they are going out to a horse barn that already has their mom - we're going to ask them to notch the different ears so they can tell them apart...

Our newest boy who came yesterday came from a shelter. He is the biggest love I'm very met. Non-stop purring and rolling. He loves belly rubs, too. Josie, our big calico, came from a shelter. She's my lover girl and purrs as soon as she sees me. Our little calico, Paisley, was tossed in a dumpster and came here. She is a character with opinions. Peaches, our beige tabby, was abandoned at a vet's office and kept in a cage for 7 months. She has lots of issues, but is slowly getting better. All are loved to pieces.

I have adopted both cats and dogs from the shelter. There is a fee because they spay or neuter the animal, and it has its shots. Somebody came to the house before we were allowed to take the dog home to make sure it was a proper yard for him, and that we had enough room for him, as he was a big dog. The cats didn't need any home visits. Each shelter varies, but if you get there early enough, you can usually take the animal home with you that same day.

Two of my cats have been adopted from a shelter, two more were taken in as strays, and I've just adopted a black kitten from the shelter to make five.

I have adopted two and they are the most loving cats going.I also used to help out at the cats home when it was just down the road from me,but it has now moved 4 miles down the road.I think it is shame that there are soo many cats in a cats home and i think alot of places now let people foster the older cats as they do find it hard to find them homes.

I agree with you. I've fostered a cat before, for 2 years, before one of the shelter workers adopted him. I prefer older, or at least adult, cats because they don't have the crazy energy of kittens. They also don't change too much - if you adopt an adult cat that's very sweet and loving, they stay that way. Sometimes kittens change a lot as they grow up.

Hi Lemonadedush Wow funny you should mention the name of the cat your going to get That was the name of the cat that I was supposed to get from the PetSmart rescue shelter His name was also Lover Boy but he was a big orange and tan Tabby and he was gorgeous! Well we couldn't get him that day because when we got there they were closed so we had to come back the next day to get him . Well by the time I got back to pick him up somebody had already adopted him~ We really wanted him to but we didn't pay for him because as I said they were closed I got there as early as I could because I had to work that day. But I did pick out my gray ,black and tan tabby my baby JINX! He is a real sweetie and I have posted and responded to so many topics about him already I am so glad Lover Boy was gone because I wouldn't have gotten our JINX He didn't even have a name he only had a number when I came to him he got out of the cage I picked him up and he looked at me with those beautiful green eyes and I knew that was it for me LOL I said I want this one! But I had left my cash at home not realizing it and have to leave him there but I told him I would come back for him I hated to leave him but I did come back of course and its been a year and a half and I have to tell you he is our baby boy! Also the lady in the cat adoption at Petsmart later said to me "You didn't want lover boy he was lazy didn't do much but sit around and eat and wasn't the kind of cat that liked to be handled very much and very territorial. So it all worked out just fine! When Jinx I came and picked up Jinx he actually went to each cage and looked at the other cats as to say goodbye but one cat swiped at him it was a she her name was Galina and they told me that she is a real DIVA you can have no other cats if you adopt her because she will fight with them. So it was fate for me and JINX to meet and I am so glad to have him (although he is a typical cat and likes to sharpen those claws on my dining room chair and tip his water dish over from time to time I wouldn't trade him for anything

Hey Lemonadedusk, I have adopted 3 cats from an animal shelter, the first one of them is a regular tabby named Chandler, the second one of them is a white one named Boo, and the third one of them is a pure breed siamese seal point named Tash and ever since we got Tash home he has not shutup except long enough to eat a meal or wash himself. Now Boo was a very sad case as i went in to donate some cat food to the shelter and went to look at the cats and found out that Boo had been in the shelter for 6 months. All of these cats we love very much and my parents have adopted many, many more cats over the years. Also i forgot to mention that quite recently I found a turkish angora from what we can see running around outside work and when i saw that at the end of the day she was still there i could not help but take her home to my place.

I have adopted 4 and they are just the best thing that could have happened to me. They are very very lovable. They are just the awesome cats that you can ever get!! If you are willing to adopt cats on an animal shelter trust me they are going to make your life happy. :-)

I do not have a chance to adopt lovely cat or other little animails, but my sister adopted a lovely cat 4 years ago, and the cat now is healthy and strong.
